JOB DESCRIPTION:

Ibis Biosciences Inc., an Abbott company, is engaged in basic and applied research in novel diagnostic and therapeutic technologies to make fundamental advances in healthcare.  With strong funding and excellent academic ties, Ibis offers an outstanding state of the art research environment for individuals seeking to advance their careers in healthcare. We have an opportunity in our Carlsbad based Ibis Biosciences subsidiary for someone to join the New Technology team.  Ibis Biosciences growth is due to expanding government contracts/grants to develop next generation wearable sensors to continuously monitor health. 

We are currently seeking a highly motivated Principal Research Scientist with very strong molecular biology & protein engineering background to focus on development of specialized electrochemical redox enzymes for biosensors. The researcher will work on a project aimed at developing novel applications for Abbott Laboratories revolutionary FreeStyle Libre continuously monitor glucose biosensors.  The researcher will be responsible for developing enzymes with novel properties.

The required skill sets include one or more of the following:

·  Strong molecular biology background.
·  Experience in cloning protein expression and purification in bacterial systems
·  Protein engineering and in silico modeling
·  Synthetic biology
·  Directed evolution
·  Ability to problem solve and trouble shoot.
·  Ability to set priorities and meet strict deadlines.
·  Must be able to prepare reports and present data.
·  U.S. Citizenship is a MUST to comply with government contract

Required Education.

A Ph.D. in biochemical or biological sciences and several years of post-graduate research experience.

Required Experience.

3+ years post graduate experience. preferably in an industrial setting.
