Primary Function / Primary Goals / Objectives:

The Multi-Craft Technician"s responsibility within both the Manufacturing and Maintenance Department is to maintain the plant in a safe and reliable condition in compliance with all applicable corporate, state and federal codes. This function is to be integrated into the manufacturing production equipment team member aspects while being the subject matter expert for technical repiar and maintenance on the lines. This Mulit-Craft shall provide outstanding customer service to the manufacturing and support groups in the Tipp City plant through a robust predictive, preventitive and autonomous maintenance program, troubleshooting, repair and upgrading of plant processing, packaging, filling, and infrastructure systems. This is executed in a manner which enables the Tipp City plant to safely, economically and efficiently conduct business. In addition, the Maintenance Department personnel serve as a technical resource to the plant and divisional manufacturing and engineering groups.

The role of the Multicraft Technician is to perform as a line team member, assigned to an area or machine on the line performing preventive maintenance (PM), production support maintenance, schedule shutdown repairs, and major maintenance task to meet the plant production schedule. Maintain all facility areas in an acceptable state of functionality and appearance. Maintenance functions include, but are not limited to: training and coaching peers on mechanical aptitude improvements, mechanical, fabrication and welding task with emphasis on programmable logic Controllers (PLCs), electronic systems, computer systems, controls, PM"s and calibration.

Major Responsibilities:

Responsible for implementing and maintaining the effectiveness of the quality system.

The Multicraft Technician will in general:

- Be an integrated team member assigned to Operations, with sole responsibility to respond for all unplanned downtime or breakdowns on machines within your team / work group.

- Plan and execute Maintenance Excellence and line support as required for non-routine problems and issues.

- Troubleshoot equipment and systems problems for manufacturing and facility equipment both routine and complex using a defined method of troubleshooting to get to root cause; reading of electrical schematics and wiring diagrams both routine and complex as required.

- Design, fabricate and install mechanical and electronic equipment and perform program changes.

- Weld stainless steel, carbon steel, and aluminum, fabricating guards, etc. as required.

- Be engaged in safety, compliance, continuous improvement and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) as a routine part of their job responsibilities; follow all department and plant procedures.

- Lead and assist in the planning, coordination and performance of shutdown and major maintenance task.

- Support the maintenance planner through writing and closing of work orders and purchase orders by specified materials, vendor contacts and costing, including effective use of the stockroom system.

- Work with Engineering and Manufacturing to Support, coordinate and implement design changes to equipment and controls.

- Complete all training as scheduled and perform cross training and other work-related duties as assigned; provide training including OJT to other employees.

- Work with minimal Supervision; Housekeeping of the shop is primarily the responsibility of everyone working in the area. Lead other employees including directing other maintenance personnel on a job and providing OJT for employees new to the department. Record and communicate shift activity in an organized manner. Properly use the plant work order system and follow all stockroom procedures. Audit equipment and develop replacement part lists.

- Cross-Train team members within the designated natural work team to ensure that Tipp City"s team members continue to grow through development of skills and tasks.

The above description covers the general duties performed. Tasks may require individuals to work any shift, any department, weekends and overtime to support production and general plant needs.

Specific duties could include:

1. Machining of parts on a lathe or mill for replacement of repair or worn parts; wire and repair electric motors; repair basic wiring and replace lighting fixtures and lamps; correct size fusing, motor overload protection and wire size per National Electric Code (NEC); read electrical schematics and wire directly from wiring diagrams; use of electrical and precision tools to complete assigned work.

2. Proficient in performing repairs to production equipment and plant utility systems; troubleshooting complex, high-speed filling, packaging and conveying equipment; ensure proper operation of electrical / mechanical components and devices (push buttons, switches, timers, solenoids, electrical disconnects, AC and DC motors); troubleshoot and repair variable frequency drives, filtecs, taptones, barcode scanners, video-jet ink printers, vision systems and computer control systems.

3. The Multicraft(MC) technician will be responsible for maintaining and troubleshooting problems with AC drive systems and PLCs. A MC technician should be able to access and interpret PLC logic via a laptop computer or desktop station using the appropriate communication language. Properly maintaining a PLC requires the understanding of the wiring schematics.

Desired profile

Education:

High School Diploma or GED and two year mechanical/electrical technical degree or equivalent experience.

Background:

Knowledge of applicable regulatory standards and requirements for infant formula and nutritionals.

Including but not limited to troubleshooting electrical and/or mechanical high-speed filling, packaging equipment and utilities; making machine adjustments; timing mechanical systems for proper operation; electrical/mechanical skills with utility systems; machining or welding parts, experience with reading blueprints and schematics, experience with pumps, motors and drives; knowledge of the use of precision tools/instruments.

Knowledge of Predictive Maintenance skills and techniques including vibration analysis, laser alignment, etc,; experience with cycle based PM systems and problem solving techniques such as 5 Whys, Kepner Tregoe, Analytical Troubleshooting, Potential Problem Analysis, etc.

Accountability / Scope/Budget:

Accountable to function and be inclusive to Tipp City"s High Performance Work Culture.

Accountable for acting proactively to ensure that we continue to "Drive to Zero" with respect to Safety, Cost, Quality and Production Losses.

Accountable for maintaining various hand tools and equipment; drills, winches, micrometers, calipers, torches, welders, lathe, mill, multimeter, etc. Failure to maintain will result in replacement of tools and equipment.

Accountable for maintaining all plant systems and machines as required. Failure to maintain will result in repair, replacement and downtime.

This position is accountable for ensuring compliance with applicable FDA (GMP), USDA, OSHA and Abbott regulations, policies, procedures and guidelines.
