Our location in Des Plaines, Illinois currently has an opportunity for a Manufacturing Process Engineer – Lyophilization is to oversee lyophilization best practices at the Abbott Molecular facility. The position requires the ability to work cross functionally with Facilities Maintenance, Manufacturing Maintenance, Manufacturing, Quality and Technical Product Support. The position has a direct impact on productivity and performance throughout the plant.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
Responsibilities
· Develop system to provide oversight for all lyophilization runs.
· Review lyophilization batch records and track/trend key performance indicators.
· Troubleshoot lyophilization equipment issues.
· Manage and Execute Preventative Maintenance Work Orders for all Lyophilizers
· Manage spare parts inventory for all lyophilization assets.
· Gather maintenance and manufacturing performance data and perform preliminary analysis, report findings, and prepare recommended action plans to drive cost containment and cost reduction efforts.
· Benchmark internally and externally to continuously drive for lyophilizer maintenance best practices.
· Facilitate root cause analysis for equipment downtime.
· Train technicians and operators across site to build competence in lyophilization operation and maintenance.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE YOU’LL BRING
Required
· Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Science or closely related discipline or equivalent technical experience plus demonstrated competence.
· 2+ years of either operating or maintaining lyophilizers
· Experience with industrial and mechanical engineering principles, data analysis, process improvement techniques, and problem-solving.
· Technical knowledge of maintenance programs
· Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, to interface with manufacturing technicians, maintenance technicians, engineers, and technical liaisons, and cross-functional teams at site and other Abbott sites with lyophilization technologies.
· Strong leadership skills required. Interacts well with diverse groups within the operation and maintains strong working relationships with internal in a collaborative, fast-paced, goal-driven environment.
· Ability to work with little direction and supervision - uses technical judgment to complete tasks with a strong degree of accuracy and completeness.
Preferred
· Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Chemical Engineering
· HVAC Certificate with EPA Universal 608
· Ability to troubleshoot PLC and SCADA systems.
· Familiarity with "Reliability Centered Maintenance"
· Familiarity with OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness)
· Work experience in the food /medical industry under FDA regulation.

The base pay for this position is
$72,700.00 – $145,300.00
