ABOUT ABBOTT VASCULAR NETHERLANDS (AVN)

Abbott Vascular Netherlands in Heerlen, The Netherlands, is one of the two Abbott Vascular Tier 1 distribution centers responsible for the worldwide distribution of Abbott’s vascular products. From our 10,000 m2 warehouse we ship an average of 1,700 deliveries per day (765,000 units per month) to hospitals, Abbott distributors and Abbott affiliates in Europe, Middle East, Africa and South America.

Every day, over 150 employees in our warehouse and in supporting departments work on processing customer orders, maintaining a high service level to ensure that our customers receive the right products on time. Abbott Vascular Netherlands offers a complete and high standard Supply Chain solution, including an extensive range of value-add logistics activities such as labeling, relabeling and reworking of products to meet country specific needs.

WHAT WILL YOU FOCUS ON DURING YOUR INTERNSHIP?

Background

The assignment you will work on will be for the Manufacturing Engineering department. Manufacturing Engineering represents Business Excellence together with one other team within AVN (Abbott Vascular Netherlands) This department is responsible for several workflows, such as warehouse support, quality and project management. The team is a linking pin between many departments Internal to AVN and external partners.

Within this internship you are going to lead a DMAIC on process efficiency of the team itself. We have guidelines on our efficiency and not reaching the desired state. By analyzing the current process in place, capturing inputs from the different stakeholders, review of the process, we want to optimize our workflow. Identify solutions to make the process more efficient are the main focus on this Internship. Next to that you will work closely with different Departments such as: Warehouse Operations Supervisors, Quality Department and Site Leadership members.

Problem Description

Within the Manufacturing Engineering department, we are working to support many workflows. The time we spend on each flow is off balance. We want to be in control again of our work and support our stakeholders in the best way we can. Our objective is to meet the target of that balance by increasing our process productivity. This will increase the customer satisfaction, decrease stress levels for the team and open up time for innovation and progress.

Objectives

·  You will spend 100% of your time leading an initiative based on the DMAIC structure about how the make make the team more effective within their workflows.

We are looking for a motivated student at the level of university and/or Applied Sciences (HBO or WO) to join our business for this assignment, including but not limited to the following field of studies:
