JOB DESCRIPTION:
We are excited to be hiring a Facilities Engineer for Abbott's center of excellence for FFR/OCT technology
in Westford, MA. As a part of the EHS/Facilities team, the successful candidate should be self-motivated
and detail oriented. Additionally, we are looking for candidates with experience working in a clean room
medical device or pharmaceutical manufacturing as well as in-depth knowledge of building mechanical
systems. A strong knowledge of HVAC, engineering design, and project management are ideal.
Responsibilities
- Genuine focus on safety first
- HVAC, mechanical, and electrical maintenance oversight and troubleshooting including preventative
- maintenance, contractor management and team collaboration
- Able to read P&ID's and engineering drawings associated with clean rooms, office areas, and R&D laboratories
- Familiar with basic budgeting process and cost accounting
- Act on the Abbott's behalf in a professional manner
- Maintain a constant focus on cost reduction opportunities
- Responsible for managing facility drawings
- Capital equipment scope of work estimates, budget, and project plan
- Keeping alignment with Abbott's sustainability goals for energy, waste, and water reduction
- Lead the facilities maintenance work order planning team
- Delivering monthly, quarterly, and annual metrics on facilities operations status
Core Job Responsibilities
Responsible for compliance with applicable Corporate and Divisional Policies and procedures.
1. Oversees the planning, design, reconfiguration, maintenance, and alteration of equipment, machinery,
buildings, structures, and other facilities;
2. Responsible for planning plant, office and production equipment
layouts for efficiency of operation and maximum utilization of facilities and equipment;
3. Reviews and estimates design costs including equipment, installation, labor, materials, preparation, and other
related costs.;
4. Develops criteria and performance specifications for facilities and equipment required to meet unique
operating requirements and building and safety codes;
5. Directs and coordinates architecture/engineering firms in developing design criteria and preparing layout
and detail drawings;
6. Prepares bid sheets and contracts for construction and facilities acquisition;
7. Inspects or directs the inspection of construction and installation progress to ensure conformance to established
drawings, specifications, and schedules;
8. Gathers and reviews data concerning facility or equipment specifications, company or government restrictions,
required completion date, and construction feasibility;
9. Assists in development and maintenance of short-term and long-term facilities space plan;
10. May be responsible for scheduling, coordinating, and planning preventative maintenance;
11. Plans and coordinates periodic shutdown to service and maintain equipment;
12. Investigates unplanned events affecting facility operations and takes appropriate corrective and preventive
actions to preclude recurrence.
Supervisory / Management Responsibilities
(Supervision Received) Works under minimal supervision. Receives limited supervision on standard issues, and
general instructions on new assignments. Work is reviewed for soundness of judgment, and overall deliverables.
(Supervision Provided) May provide limited work direction and guidance to exempt and/or skilled
nonexempt levels of employees, consultants and contractors; may be asked to evaluate performance of and
assist in career development planning for subordinates.
Position Accountability / Scope
(Influence/Leadership) Cultivates a wide range of internal networks and begins to develop an external network of
resources to facilitate completion of tasks. Demonstrates project management skills by acting as a project manager
on small to MID-SIZED CONCEPTUALLY DEFINED PROJECTS. Influence exerted at peer level and occasionally on
management.;
(Planning/Organization) Plans, organizes, and prioritizes own daily work routine to meet established schedule.;
(Decision Making/Impact) Exercises authority and judgment within generally defined limits to determine appropriate
action. Failure to achieve results or erroneous decisions or recommendations may cause delays and may result in the
allocation of additional resources, OR NEGATIVELY IMPACT COMPANY GOALS.
Minimum Education
Bachelor's Degree (Engineering or Facilities Management), with a minimum of 2 -5+ years of experience in this discipline,
or equivalent combination of education and applicable work experience. Experience with cGMP and cGLP practices and
projects preferred.
Minimum Experience / Training Required
- Strong building mechanical system knowledge
- General building maintenance knowledge
- Must be proficient with Microsoft Office
- Knowledge of Infor and Struxure(BMS) systems a plus
- Excellent written, verbal communications, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to read and interpret building drawings and P&ID's
- Highly detail oriented with multitasking and time management skills
- Ability to speak effectively and communicate well with all staff and reporting structures
- Team oriented with a focus on individual accountability
- Excellent project management skills with an ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
- Basic knowledge of service and construction agreements
Technical/Business Knowledge (Job Skills)) Working knowledge and application of business concepts,
procedures and practices. Will perform this job in a quality system environment. Failure to adequately perform tasks
