JOB DESCRIPTION:

MAIN PURPOSE OF ROLE

Supports major R&D programs through reagent product development, process transfer to manufacturing, and launch. Secures and monitors funding and resources. Exercises technical leadership in a multidisciplinary environment to expedite, manage and coordinate a multitude of interrelated activities within the constraints of limited resources and changing priorities.

This role is responsible for the reagent, solid phase, organic chemistry and conjugate design, innovation, development and process transfer to manufacturing for all Core Diagnostics’ assays.  This role also has direct responsibility for the Reagent Pilot Plant and the Clinical Services Team which is responsible for small scale reagent manufacturing and kit pack.  Team size is approximately 30-35 resources with 5 direct reports and an annual budget of approximately $8 million.  This role is responsible for developing long-term strategy, identifying process improvement initiatives, aligning reagent development and best practices globally across the Core Diagnostics network, and supporting on market issues.

 
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
•    Conceive, plan and execute reagent design and process development to meet the strategic needs of the division.
•    Resource activities to ensure reagent and process design are aligned with program objectives, strategies, timelines and milestones.
•    Initiate process improvement initiatives to drive quality, to resolve technical challenges, to support gross margin improvements, and to improve test methodology and data generation to promote stronger decision-making.
    Support on market product investigations leveraging subject matter expertise.
•    Coordinate and harmonize reagent and process development utilizing best practices globally across the Core Diagnostics manufacturing network. Direct the work of technical and support personnel, draw on technical expertise available both within and outside of Abbott.
•    Develop strategies to solve business problems, implement efficiencies, and drive solutions that will address the business issues.
•    Recognize the implications of actions and proposals on the final project outcome, related systems and activities and general business strategy.
•    Prepare reports and presents progress and strategic initiatives to senior and executive management.
•    Coach and mentor team members on performance and development needs.  Build a credible succession strategy.
•    Identify resource requirements, costs and time schedules via the project funding process across the long range plan.

QUALIFICATIONS

Advanced degree or Certification in a technical discipline (Organic Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, etc.) 
Thorough understanding of assay development, reagent chemistry, and design control procedures. Has successfully led significant development projects from beginning to end 

In-depth understanding of the technology involved in the products
Demonstrated technical skills and leadership judgment
Experience with product and business strategy development
Knowledge of regulations and standards related to the product
Experience in a regulated industry; experience with IVD reagent manufacturing

 

     

The base pay for this position is
$162,000.00 – $324,000.00

In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
