Job Description
TITLE: Site Assessment Engineer
COMPANY:Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy, Inc.
DUTIES: Undertake all technical site suitability studies associated with proposed onshore wind farms utilizing Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy (SGRE) Wind Turbines in the Americas region. Perform detailed analysis on the site-specific wind climate and terrain to ensure the long-term integrity of Siemens wind turbines at proposed wind farm sites. Conduct detailed wind flow and turbulence modeling of potential wind farm sites using both commercially available linear flow models and more advanced computational fluid dynamics models customized for SGRE wind turbines. Integrate model results into SGRE proprietary algorithms to identify any potential mechanical fatigue loads issues that may affect turbine power performance and long-term operations. Perform site visits to complex sites to verify terrain inputs to models including mapping areas of forestry, forestry density, tree heights, terrain inclinations, surface roughness lengths, wetland areas, etc. Identify all potential environmental technical issues related to a proposed wind farm site including areas of high turbulence intensity, excessive wind shear, extreme temperature exposures, corrosive and contaminant potential, icing and hail threat, etc. Prepare a detailed wind turbine site suitability study for SGRE Sales and Proposals department and support the Sales team in addressing technical issues in connection with the project screening and proposal preparation.
REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor's degree in Meteorology, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Energy Engineering, or a related field (or foreign degree equivalent) and 5 years of experience in the job offered or in an acceptable alternate occupation. Must have 5 years of experience with the following skills: developing knowledge of boundary layer meteorology, fluid dynamics, demonstrated experience with computational fluid dynamics models; wind turbine site suitability, load analysis and dynamic simulations of mechanical systems; wind Farm Project Design: site survey and selection, data analysis, energy output estimates, micro-siting and project optimization. Must have 3 years of experience with the following skills: programming using Excel VBA or R language for future in-house tool development; and proficiency level with Wasp, WindSim CFD, WindPro and other wind industry software. Approximately 5% travel required.
OTHER: Orlando, FL.40 hours/week; $103,709 / year.
