Jr. Marine Liability Claim Associate

Your Role

Assist the Director of Risk Management in the general, operational, financial and administrative handling of all NAM claims, both marine cargo as well as marine liability claims

Your Responsibilities

- Assist the Director of Risk Management in  the general, operational, financial and administrative handling of all NAM claims, both marine cargo as well as marine liability claims
- Prepare monthly or quarterly claims report to the national and regional management
- Ensure maintenance and compliance for the database used to manage freight forwarder’s liability and marine cargo insurance claims, including an effective e-filing system.
- Assist in ensuring that all claims are handled and processed in line with the Claims Center operating procedures as well as with the requirements of Kuehne + Nagel’s liability insurers.
- Provide day to day support to Kuehne + Nagel staff on claims related matters.
- Conduct effective management of internal and external meetings
- Contribute to increased cargo insurance sales resulting from knowledge gained through claims reports/branch trainings
- Claims Handling through use of a broad spectrum of transportation knowledge such as Maritime law, Warehouseman’s Legal Liability, Freight Forwarding, Airfreight Liability and Contract Logistics.
- Subrogated claim recoveries
- Maintenance of the Global Claims Procedures in NAM
- Interface with Marine Liability Insurers including loss reporting
- Assist in branch trainings on marine cargo insurance/marine liability
- Comply with KPIs and internal disciplines and continually review and propose improvements.
- Ensure that all personnel are kept up-to-date with claim management requirements at all times

Your Skills and Experiences

Qualifications

- University level knowledge of International and NAM Transport and Maritime Law incl. Marine Insurance law
- NY/ NJ Property & Casualty Broker’s License
- Loss Adjuster’s license
- Extensive knowledge of freight forwarding business
- Minimal 2 year experience in transportation claims handling and recoveries

Skills

- Strong detail-orientation, coordination and organization skills. Proven experience and ability in organizing and prioritizing workload.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
- Demonstrate a proactive approach and the ability to organise to achieve results, quickly absorbing and interpreting new/complex information
- Ability to communicate at the right level to the target audience, ensuring a quick turnaround in response to queries, using well-constructed and persuasive arguments to influence others
- Highly adept in negotiation and influence with the ability to anticipate and plan for potential objections when making proposals
- Maintain high levels of energy and stamina
- Generate new ideas to improve performance, translating these ideas into practical solutions
- Advanced personal computer skills and demonstrated competency in using Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access data base.
- A minimum of 2 years experience in relevant position
- Fluency in Spanish highly desired.
