Job description

The Environmental Health and Safety Coordinator is responsible for the development and execution of programs to ensure that the Company provides a safe workplace for employees and minimizes impacts to the environment.  This position ensures compliance with all federal, state, and local environmental, health, and safety regulations.  The incumbent will implement a sustainable environmental, health and safety management system at a plant level and drive EHS performance improvement and efficiency. The incumbent is successful through strong leadership, vision, and effective management and ensures these goals in a professional atmosphere that enhances Company economic viability.

 

In this role, you will be responsible for:

·  Ensure adherence to plant standards (including but not limited to GMP, AIB, FDA, Quality, Safety, Finance, ISO, fire, EMT along Daily Direction Setting, Driving OE). As a fundamental piece of the organization, your responsibility is to participate in and own the implementation and deployment of IWS or related integrated work systems and corresponding pillars (Leadership foundation, Daily Direction Setting, Driving OE; Autonomous Maintenance; planned Maintenance; Focused Improvement; Education and Training; Environmental, Health and Safety; Quality; Organization; Supply Network; Early Equipment Management) with the objective of owning your space, owning your performance (Safety, Quality, Cost, Delivery, Mobilization, Nature) and owning your continuous improvement.  
·  Partners with EHS Manager in the development and implementation of environmental, health and safety compliance programs.
·  Conducts site inspections and participates in EHS auditing; recommends and follows through on agreed resolutions
·  Collects EHS metrics and reports, including use of EHS Exchange
·  Maintains injury/illness recordkeeping & reporting
·  Partners with EHS Manager in the preparation of government reports, obtaining permits/certifications
·  Monitors, tracks and delivers EHS training programs, maintains training database.
·  Chairs safety committees and safety awareness programs                     
·  Conducts and mentors employees in Behavior Based Safety observations   
·  Partners with EHS Manager in job safety analysis                                              
·  Coordinates indoor air quality and hearing conservation surveys                
·  Leads 8D Problem Solving and Root Cause Incident investigations
·  Coordinates hazard communication and MSDS directories/libraries             
·  Partners with EHS Manager to make sure the emergency response & evacuation planning is complete, up to date and well communicated
·  Own respective QMS standard and execute all processes, including all documentation specification requirements.
·  All other duties as assigned or become evident

                 

Education and Experience

 

·  Bachelor’s in Safety, Environmental Health, Chemistry, or related field or in lieu of a degree
·  3 to 5+ years manufacturing experience with prior safety duties or responsibilities preferred
·  Basic knowledge of OSHA and EPA regulations, Virginia state requirements is a plus

 

             Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

 

·  Ability to learn all functions of job and complete required trainings for position within a reasonable amount of time
·  Basic PC skills
·  Strong verbal and written communication skills.
·  Good leadership skills and ability to mentor and motivate (a real passion for EHS)
·  Effective management skills.
·  Serves as a change agent to drive process improvements and cultural change
·  Creates alignment
·  Must be adaptable and flexible
·  Works well under pressure, effectively handles conflict, strict deadlines and multiple tasks
·  Ability to assess and implement EHS best practices.
·     Excellent organization, recordkeeping and documentation skills.
·  Be able to analyze many variables and choose the most effective course of action for the organization at any given point in time.
·  Critical decision-making ability.
·  Handle novel and diverse work problems on a daily basis.
·  Be able to communicate and provide verbal feedback in a professional manner.
·  Be able to resolve problems, handle conflict and make effective decisions under pressure.  Requires public contact and excellent interpersonal skills.
·  Help maintain compliance in HACCP, FQP, GMP and Safety.
·  Perform Back-up role in Supervisor absence.
