Position Description:
We are seeking a hands-on Senior AS400 Developer with deep experience in RPG/RPGLE and COBOL to support critical AS400-based applications and near-term delivery needs. This role requires a strong individual contributor who is comfortable working in legacy IBMi/AS400 environments, performing end-to-end development and testing, while also contributing to modernization and integration initiatives with modern platforms and web services.
The ideal candidate can execute independently, collaborate within an Agile/Scrum team, and use Azure DevOps (ADO) for day-to-day delivery tracking.
Your future duties and responsibilities:
- Design, develop, and maintain complex AS400 / IBMi applications using RPG, RPGLE (free form), and COBOL
- Perform hands-on testing of AS400 applications, including unit, integration, and smoke testing
- Troubleshoot, debug, and resolve production and non production issues across AS400 environments
- Develop and optimize DB2 database objects, queries, and embedded SQL
- Support system integrations between legacy AS400 platforms and modern applications / APIs
- Participate actively in Agile/Scrum ceremonies and collaborate closely with cross functional team members
- Use Azure DevOps (ADO) for work item tracking, sprint execution, and defect management
- Contribute to legacy modernization initiatives, including refactoring, integration, or incremental technology upgrades
- Document technical designs, testing outcomes, and implementation details as needed
Required qualifications to be successful in this role:
- 10+ years of hands on AS400 / IBMi development experience
- Strong expertise in RPG, RPGLE (free form), and COBOL
- Solid experience with DB2, including embedded SQL and performance optimization
- Proven experience testing AS400 based applications (unit, integration, and smoke testing)
- Experience working with green screen applications and backend AS400 processing
- Familiarity with IBMi operating system concepts and environments
- Experience working in an Agile / Scrum delivery model
- Hands on experience using Azure DevOps (ADO) or similar project tracking tools
- Strong analytical, problem solving, and communication skills
Nice to Have Skills:
- Experience with Java development
- Experience with .NET / C# development
- Experience modernizing or integrating legacy AS400 applications with modern platforms
- Familiarity with web services, APIs, and JSON payloads
- Experience with RDi (Rational Developer for i)
- Exposure to DevOps practices applied to legacy systems
- Experience working with LPARs
CGI is providing a reasonable estimate of the pay range for this role. The determination of this range includes factors such as skill set level, geographic market, experience and training, and licenses and certifications. Compensation decisions depend on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $80,000–$130,000. This role is an existing vacancy.
