Sr. Instrument Technician (2002094) – Wyandotte, MI

 

BASF is seeking a Sr Instrument Technician. The position is responsible for supporting the BASF office buildings, labs, small scale process equipment, warehouses and operations on the Wyandotte site by maintaining the instrumentation and HVAC controls systems in good working order. The work must be done in a safe and efficient manner, and demands attention to detail, job site cleanliness, and workspace orderliness. This position is considered multi-skilled, i.e. the instrument technician will perform a wide variety of work besides instrumentation and controls maintenance as the plant situations dictate. This work may include basic pipe fitting, millwright, insulation, and operator assistance tasks.

 

The position requires a collaborative approach involving multiple levels of plant operations personnel, and the successful candidate must have excellent troubleshooting, communication, and listening skills.

Additional responsibilities include:

Install, wire, calibrate, and repair a wide variety of chemical process instrumentation including those for measurement and control of fluid flow, pressure, temperature, level, pH, density, and position.

Read P&ID’s, flow diagrams, single line diagrams, loop diagrams, sequence charts, and interlock tables.

Must have working knowledge of HVAC control systems (Bacnet, JCI and Siemens) Must be able to use manufacturers’ technical literature available on-line and communicate regularly with vendors’ technical representatives.

Awareness of proportional and PID control modes is required.

Perform control loop calibrations, as well as field and bench calibration of process instruments.

Perform routine preventive maintenance inspections.

Familiarity with both ANSI and metric standard fasteners and fittings, as well as domestic and European equipment is required.

24 hour / 365 day on-call support for Building demands. Willingness to work overtime, on-call, after hours and weekends when needed.

Basic computer literacy: Windows operating system, Outlook e-mail and databases, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel).

Excellent safety skills. Must comply with OSHA and plant-specific safety procedures.

Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment.

Experienced troubleshooting and repair of Allen Bradley and Siemens variable frequency drives is desired.

Experience with SAP computerized maintenance management system.

In addition to the basic requirement of being able to install control wiring, the ability to work on power wiring up to 480V 3-phase is an advantage.

In addition to the basic requirement of being able to calibrate and maintain a wide variety of instrumentation, experience with air / water measurement equipment such as turbidity, conductivity, explosive gas detection is an advantage.

Ability to develop and revise written documentation related to equipment repair / calibration procedures, preventive maintenance inspection protocols, breakdown / failure analysis reporting.

This position will lift 50 lbs. throughout their shift and will have access to assistance when needed.

Qualifications - BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent

Ingredients for Success: What We Look For in You…

Basic Qualifications:

High School Diploma or GED

8 years of Instrumentation maintenance experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment

3 year of experience using the Microsoft Office Suite

Preferred Qualifications:

Associates degree from an accredited college or university (BASF Scholarship program)

5 years of experience in commercial, manufacturing instrumentation / electrical field preferred.

Certifications in welding, machine repair, machinist, or other related trade

Experience with Allen-Bradley and Siemens PLC.

Experience with heating circuits, SCRs, thermal couples and RTDs preferred

Experience JCI and Bacnet operating systems.

Experience trouble shooting HVAC controls with through BMS system (building management systems)

EPA universal refrigerant license.
