Job description

BASF is currently building a new Verbund site in Zhanjiang, Guangdong province. Announced in July 2018 and officially commenced in November 2019, BASF Zhanjiang Verbund Site Project would be BASF’s largest investment with up to US$10 billion upon completion and would be operated under the sole responsibility of BASF. BASF Zhanjiang Verbund site would ultimately be the third-largest BASF site worldwide, and will be built into a role model for smart manufacturing and sustainable production by utilizing the latest digital technologies and applying the highest safety standards.

Main Tasks
- Strongly represent and push owners’ requirements for quality in project teams and on construction site.
- Cold eye auditor for clusters/projects and provide improvement suggestions for construction contractor and clusters/projects construction quality team.
- Based on project condition, perform spot checks on construction site for the welder qualification, welder performance tracking, installation and testing of piping, steel structure and static equipment etc. to ensure quality is within owners’ specification
- Overview spot checks of the activities in pre-commissioning including flushing, blowing, cleaning, tightness testing and dynamic/functional testing of all mechanical/piping system
- Technically support on treatment and closure of “Non-Conformance Report” (NCR), and communicate with project team about deviations, initiate and follow up decisions for required rectification
- Support TSS to collect construction and manufacture data such as inspection and test records, initial state data of all equipment (e.g. thickness measurements), failure case analysis and repair measures, project and OEM files (e.g. vendor data books).

Requirements

- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, chemical, materials engineering, welding or equivalent.
- At least 9 years total work experience with minimum 3 years’ experience in construction quality control in chemical, petrochemical, refinery industry or inspection companies.
- Good knowledge of quality management systems, QA/QC systems and of QA/QC philosophy.
- Good knowledge of Chinese and international engineering and codes and standards (e.g. GB, AWS, ASME, ASTM, EN).
- Basic knowledge of Chinese and local inspection related standards, codes, and safety regulation for chemical equipment (e.g., TSG, GB).
- Good knowledge of different non-destructive testing (NDT) methods and their application.
- Basic knowledge in inspection of petrochemical/ chemical equipment, its methods about investigation tools and techniques like RBQM and its program management.
- Good communication skills to facilitate cross-discipline communication, to manage interfaces and to drive a continuous improvement process.
- Good skills of spoken & written technical English.
- Willingness to travel frequently within Asia Pacific.
