Quality Continuous Improvement Specialist-Wyandotte, MI

 

We Create Chemistry ....

The incumbent is responsible for the development and implementation of projects to improve the processes and business’ quality results.  Incumbent uses statistical methods to analyze process data, develop and implement continuous improvement plans to achieve improved productivity, reliability, and quality. Incumbent develops and coordinates projects supporting quality improvement changes. Incumbent uses Lean and Six Sigma tools to drive continuous improvement at Wyandotte Dispersion and Resin Plant (WYDR).

 

The incumbent is responsible for maintaining and continuously improving how the lab technicians’ interface and use all lab instrumentation and ensures proper training and development. This role is responsible for maintaining the workflow of the Quality Assurance (QA) lab and act as Group Leader when needed as well as be a guide and support to QA personnel regarding Yellow and Green Belt Projects.

 

This role maintains and updates plant lab procedures, supporting all aspects of production and quality by role modeling a “silo-free” mentality. The incumbent leads and participates in various WYDR unit sub-teams for the purpose of improvement in safety, quality, productivity, and sustainability. This individual will also take an active role in improving FTQ and reduction of CoPQ, along with associated issues with re-sampling & analysis.

 

 

Formula for Success

 

Key responsibilities include the following:

Be a Lean OpEx leader in developing Lean / Continuous Improvement projects to support improved unit reliability, capacity, quality, and cost savings. Serve as a mentor in Yellow Belt projects.

Propose, track, audit, communicate and take action to improve performance for relevant KPIs (Quality, Productivity, EHS, Scheduling, and Logistics).

Provide leadership, training, and coaching to others leading continuous improvement projects and implementing continuous improvement methodologies

Analyze COPQ and FTQ data and continuously support and lead efforts to improve all quality KPI’s.

Participate in and lead root cause analysis, ensuring that the teams identify very well the root causes along with effective corrective actions, driving corrective actions to completion to continually raise the total level of performance.

Manages QA personnel in all aspects of lab instrumentation, including but not limited to routine and non-routine maintenance, calibration, and verification activities.

Maintains lab testing procedure and relevant MOC’s.

Support Quality Group Leader in Lab Technician Schedule of vacations, OT, call offs, etc.

Alternate on-call schedule with Quality Group Leader to support quality escalated issues

 

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree required. BA/BS in Chemistry is preferred.  Four years of analytical chemistry experience with a BS/BA is acceptable in lieu of a BS in science field.

3+ years of chemical lab experience as a technician, team leader or equivalent required.

Demonstrated commitment in word and deed to always working safely, plus leadership in positively influencing other colleagues and teammates to do the same.

Continuous improvement tools such as Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies.

Demonstrated strong communications skills both within and outside of immediate team.

Leadership of small teams in a lab environment highly recommended

Demonstrated knowledge of ISO9001 and Auditing Principles

Experience managing the development and document control aspects of quality systems procedures and work instructions
