Petrochemicals Business Controller - Houston, TX

The BASF NA Petrochemicals business, headquartered in Houston, Texas, is a highly profitable business unit which generates approximately $5 billion in revenue with manufacturing facilities located in Texas, Louisiana and Cornwall, Canada.

As part of the leadership team reporting to the Sr. Vice President, this role is the senior Controlling position for the regional business unit Petrochemicals, North America. This position has overall accountability and responsibility for financial performance management, business analysis, and forecasting, as well as governance and compliance processes to support the business unit. This position proactively provides guidance, challenges, consults and partners with the business unit leadership to enable appropriate financial decision making and value generation.

Supervisory responsibilities (total number supervised):

As Business Group Controller, you will lead a team of approximately 15 professionals providing financial support to the business.

Qualifications - BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent

Formula for Success: Leveraging your proven leadership and development of high performing teams, your strong knowledge and experience in accounting (strong emphasis on cost accounting) and finance coupled with your advanced and complex problem solving & analytical skills, you will demonstrate success with a concentration in the following focus areas:
 

Financial Planning & Performance Management: 

Ensure the implementation and maintenance of appropriate reporting processes which effectively and efficiently measure business performance and results

•Lead the process, ensuring all annual plans, forecasts and targets are developed and appropriate gap analysis is conducted, including operational (profit / loss) planning, maintenance, capital, and annual personnel planning

•Ensure the preparation and communication of information meets the financial reporting obligations for the business unit to the North American region and global operating division

•Prepare financial forecasts and commentary, advising management of expected business performance of the business unit and its segments

•Strengthen a sustainable value-based mindset on all levels within the business unit

 

Business Analysis:

•Partner with the business unit management to develop and implement strategic objectives including the accountability to provide senior level business consulting, analysis and recommendations

•Plan, lead and conduct significant studies and analyses of issues affecting the business unit, such as, business rationalization analysis, capital investment analysis, and reporting of business unit results

•Partner with and advise the business unit management on the financial implications of various business alternatives with regard to pricing, capacity utilization, working capital issues, capital expenditures, expansion/shutdown, M&A, etc.

•Interpret the results of various business trends and analysis, advising the business unit leadership on the effect on the business unit's actual or potential financial condition

 

Governance & Compliance:

•Ensure that corporate / divisional internal control, auditing and risk management requirements are established

•Ensure the compliance and enforcement of all financial policies and procedures (BASF / ICTP / FRC / Regulatory)

•Counsel management regarding the interpretation, implementation and compliance with financial policies and procedures of BASF Group and BASF Corporation and appropriate regulatory authorities

•Implement and manage all intra-company transfer price management; coordinate with Division and global BASF service platforms for inter-company transfer price (ICTP) issues according to company policies

 

 Interface Management:

•Ensure the implementation, utilization and maintenance of appropriate controlling systems and tools

 

Leadership:

•Lead and direct team members ensuring key milestones and objectives are met; utilize appropriate leadership techniques to create and foster a positive, high performance work environment and provides appropriate career growth and development opportunities for the team

•Lead and direct the Accounting function at manufacturing sites reporting to our business unit

•Identify, lead, drive and support change management opportunities aimed at continuous improvement
