Our High-Throughput Screening team at BASF Enzymes in San Diego is searching for an experienced biotechnology professional to focus on our discovery pipeline for Enzyme/Protein library generation and screening for developing new products for sustainable solutions.
As a Discovery Specialist, you will be instrumental in driving and ensuring the robustness and throughput of our early-stage discovery efforts for library and material generation, involving gene cloning, expression scoping, and screening. You will help maintain, develop, and execute automation-enabled workflows to leverage the full potential of our state-of-the-art molecular biology and screening technologies and assist in monitoring the data quality and timely delivery of our results to our customers.
As a member of the HTS team, you will play a key role in planning and executing work in the areas of molecular biology, biotechnology, enzymology, automation, and data science, and you will be part of a larger global team that fully encompasses end-to-end workflows for our pipeline and offers opportunities in a challenging and dynamic environment.
As a Discovery Specialist, you create chemistry by…
· Leading, developing, and executing the cloning and expression workflow efforts for early-stage enzyme and protein candidates.
· Ensuring success and quality in candidate generation.
· Supporting our digital integration of workflows and requests that scale with our business and enable a seamless tracking and delivery of results.
· Evaluating and reporting on key pipeline performance metrics using your skills in data science and statistics to the team and to our primary stakeholders.
· Coordinating and reporting activities within the team and with other research teams in our Core research platform.
· Effectively communicating and achieving deliverables with efficiency and adherence to time constraints.
If you...
· Have a bachelor’s degree in molecular biology, biochemistry, biotechnology, or related fields of 8+ years of industry experience, or a master’s degree with 3+ years of experience, PhD with 0+ years of experience.
· Have experience with molecular biology techniques, protein expression in microbial systems and associated analytical methods as well as experience with plate-based screening, liquid handling, and automation.
· Have excellent attention to detail, organization, and data analysis skills. Be independent and adaptive and be able to both develop and follow protocols that ensure efficient workflows and high-quality data.
· Must have excellent communication skills and work well in a multidisciplinary and fast-paced R&D environment, both independently and in a team setting
· Have a sound statistical understanding and digital inclination is a plus.

Pay Transparency
BASF is committed to pay transparency practices. The competitive Pay Range for this role is $96,800- $121,000. Actual pay will be determined based on education, certifications, experience, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
