The Role
Allianz have an exciting opportunity to join our SME Underwriting team as an SME Underwriter where you will be responsible for providing a high level of underwriting service to our broker stakeholders and working collaboratively with our broader underwriting and distribution teams to ensure appropriate underwriting decisions are made. This role will suit a candidate who has had experience in underwriting SME Packages and Commercial Motor, has excellent broker management and influencing skills, and is looking to progress their career.
You'll be responsible for:
• Manage electronic referrals received via Sunrise.
• Manage new business requests, renewal management and the processing of endorsements and amendments as requested.
• Work closely with both the management team and the broader business, you will ensure that tasks are managed according to agreed service standard.
• Work effectively within the underwriting team to convert quality business to achieve profitable growth.
• Submit ideas on how we can improve our underwriting approach to deliver objectives.
• Monitor performance to ensure key financial indicators are achieved, namely GWP, Leakage and Profit measures.
• Maximise retention of preferred accounts and review renewal and new business in conjunction with internal and external stakeholder requirements.
• Where appropriate and requested, engage face to face with local Brokers alongside distribution and underwriting staff to build relationships and partnerships.
• Underwrite insurance risks in area of responsibility, adhering to underwriting guidelines and standards, as per delegated authority limits.
• Make recommendations on risks that exceed own authority and prepare escalations (sign-off) ensuring referral is accurate, thorough and balanced in terms of achieving desired profitable growth.
• Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders within Small to Medium Enterprise (SME), Commercial and other Allianz divisions.
• Ensure all key compliance and contract certainty requirements are adhered to such as training courses and peer reviews, and constantly seek opportunities for process improvement.

• Ability to positively influence the team.
• Experience in an operational, commercial underwriting role with exposure to at least a couple of annual underwriting cycles.
• Adept at proactively building and maintaining professional relationships and networks to enhance industry positioning, exchange knowledge and elicit beneficial outcomes.
• Ability to plan and prioritise effectively, organise tasks and manage competing resources and demands.
• Pays high attention to detail by completing tasks with thoroughness and accuracy and must have the ability to quickly identify errors or inconsistencies within information.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, capable of communicating with clarity, impact, and influence.
