ROLE: Director of Engineering

WHAT WE EXPECT OF YOU:

·  Supervises the complete Engineering team.
·  Manages the physical plant including equipment, refrigeration, HVAC, plumbing, water treatment, electrical and life safety systems.
·  Maintains and operates equipment at optimum effectiveness, efficiency and safety.
·  Establishes and manages an effective rooms maintenance program.
·  Ensures compliance with all Engineering departmental policies, standards and procedures.
·  Manages department's controllable expenses to achieve or exceed budgeted goals.
·  Select and order or purchase new equipment, supplies, and furnishings.
·  Inspect and evaluate the physical condition of facilities in order to determine the type of work required.
·  Recommend or arrange for additional services such as painting, repair work, renovations, and the replacement of furnishings and equipment.
·  Supervises the day to day operations of Engineering.
·  Maintains accurate logs and records as required.
·  Assists in effectively planning, scheduling and evaluating preventative maintenance programs.
·  Handles guest problems and complaints effectively.
·  Empowers employees to provide excellent customer service.
·  Displays leadership in guest hospitality by exemplifying excellent customer service and creating a positive atmosphere for guest relations.
·  Helps establish priorities for total property maintenance needs.
·  Ensures on-going communication occurs in all areas of responsibility to create awareness of business objectives, awareness of expectations and recognition of exemplary performance.
·  Celebrates successes and publicly recognizes the contributions of team members.
·  Establishes and maintains open, collaborative relationships with employees.

·  Supervises employee's ability to execute departmental and property emergency procedures.
·  Reviews employee satisfaction results to identify and address employee problems or concerns.

·  Helps ensure regulatory compliance to facility regulations and safety standards.
·  Ensures disciplinary procedures and documentation are completed according to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and support the appraisal process.
·  Ensures property policies are administered fairly and consistently.
·  Ensures all staff is thoroughly familiar with the hotel’s emergency procedures and in a state of preparedness for any emergency which may occur.
·  Execution of regular technical/skills training. Is responsible for setting up and maintaining ongoing training programs in the Engineering division in conjunction with the Director of HR & the Training Manager.
·  Initiates Fire Fighting Training in co-ordination with the Security Manager and the local authorities (Fire Brigade) on a regular basis for all Hotel departments.
·  Maintains a monthly overview of vacation- and public holiday balance of all his/her staff and delivers a monthly consolidated summary to the Director of HR.
·  Is familiar with all related company documentation and especially with the relevant Operational Standards Manual for his/her field of responsibility.
·  Other duties as assigned.
·  Assist in Task Force Teams for new openings.
·  Carry out any other reasonable task (which may not be stated here) as requested

Qualifications

·  Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, or a related field.
·  Experience in a senior engineering management role, preferably in a luxury hotel environment.
·  Strong financial acumen with experience in budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
·  Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate a diverse team.
·  Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal.
·  Proficiency in hospitality management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
