What you will do

Volvo Financial Services seeks a well-rounded Recovery & Litigation Specialist who can assist with a variety of projects and day-to-day tasks. This position will focus on several key areas: providing transaction and documentation support; assisting with licensing and certain compliance needs and providing litigation and periodic bankruptcy support. This position will work directly with business team members on dealer wholesale, retail, and franchise financing lending and leasing transactions involving motor vehicle, construction equipment, and other transportation equipment.

This position is located onsite in Greensboro, NC and reports to Legal Counsel.     

 

Core Responsibilities:
• Drafts legal documents and changes to documents for U.S. based commercial finance transactions with oversight by attorneys and other members of legal department
• Document management – work with IT and others to maintain and revise US legal templates as needed.
• Assists with licensing and regulatory matters associated with a finance company offering leases, loans, wholesale products and revolving credit facilities
• Work closely with VFS legal counsel to ensure all legal correspondence and pleadings are prepared accurately and within VFS guidelines; review pleadings and discovery requests and testify for company at depositions, trials, and hearings, and participate in settlement      conferences, mediations, and arbitrations, as needed.
• Manage legal accounts through day-to-day communications with outside counsel, as appropriate, and active reporting to ensure each account is worked thoroughly; generate reports for management
• Respond to questions and document requests from internal departments and external parties
• Manage the invoice approval process for outside counsel and other third-party vendors, as needed
• Periodically may assist with bankruptcy matter management depending on workflow and team needs
• Performs tasks requiring initiative and independent judgment pursuant to attorney requests 
• Special projects as needed.

Education:
• AA degree from a qualified paralegal studies program or equivalent related experience in asset recovery or litigation required. BA or BS in business or related field desired.
• NC Certified Paralegal, or ability to obtain paralegal certification preferred

    
Experience:
• Minimum of 3-5 five years’ experience in financial services, ideally with a bank, financial services company or law firm, focusing on personal property and equipment finance transactions.
• Detailed and in-depth experience in reviewing UCC financing statements and equipment leases; drafting subordination and intercreditor agreements, as well as complex legal agreements and amendments to financing contracts. 
• Experience with federal and state statutes regulating commercial finance transactions.
• Knowledge of principles of basic contract law, as well as litigation and bankruptcy basics.

 

Skills:
• Ability to leverage resources within MS Office to complete position-related tasks. This requires strong skills in MS Word and Excel. Experience utilizing Power BI dashboards strongly preferred.
• Experience managing workflow through case management and document management systems
• Ability to conduct accurate online research and summarize complex information
• Ability to maintain confidentiality
• Exemplary time management skills required for success
• Ability to learn and gain proficiency in changing technology
• Professionally presenting information drawn from multiple sources both orally and in writing
• Continuous improvement mindset and ability to identify and communicate opportunities for process improvements within workflow
