Job description

Transport is at the core of modern society. Imagine using your expertise to shape sustainable transport and infrastructure solutions for the future? If you seek to make a difference on a global scale, working with next-gen technologies and the sharpest collaborative teams, then we could be a perfect match.

Background

Volvo GTO in Skövde is producing components and heavy-duty diesel engines for several applications (Trucks, construction equipment, industrial engines, marine engines etc.). The main processes in Skövde are Foundry, Machining, Assembly and Logistics.

We are now facing a major transformation journey in terms of new products and processes as a part of our global company. We hope that you want to be part of and contribute to that journey.

Volvo GTO has a strategy to automate logistic operations eg transports to enable performance and safety. In the coming year Volvo Powertrain in Skövde will install a small box warehouse in the assembly plant, which sets new prerequisites for our material handling. The warehouse will be installed and implemented in our current process and how it will affect the delivery of material to point of use is not determined in terms of lead time.

Purpose

The purpose of this thesis is to map the current material flows and the impact of the small box warehouse. With this in mind, we expect you to propose proper optimizations to ensure material availability at usage point with focus on trigger points for replenishment.

Task

The task is to make a value stream map with focus on leadtime for the current material flow and use that to make estimate about the future leadtime when the small box warehouse is installed.
If the value stream map shows that the leadtime will be to long when the small box warehouse is installed the task is also to suggest improvements to make sure that the leadtime meets the demand.

Main location for the project group will be at Volvo GTO in Skövde.
