Background:

Development of tools for manufacturing that are effective and cost-efficient are important to ensure quality in manufactured components. One way is for equipment suppliers to understand functionality and constraints that exist within manufacturing plants. Therefore, An integrated approach to product and production development methodology is necessary to enable growth in efficiency and productivity.

Description:

The goal of the thesis work is to propose a streamlined approach for defining precise product requirements derived from current production workflows at VCE. The product under development is a vision-enabled tool for quality control of surface porosity. This work will focus on methodologically capturing key insights from current production operations to create product requirements for the camera-based quality control tool.

The 20-week work can be carried out in two phases. The pre-study phase will include in-depth workflow analysis with production teams to map existing processes, from raw material handling through to final product assembly and quality control. The second phase will synthesize this data into a set of initial product requirements that reflect the identified needs and opportunities. These requirements is expected to cover aspects such as design specifications, user interface as well as demands from Volvo operators and Volvo standards.

The final deliverable will be a methodological description as well as comprehensive requirements document, complemented by process maps as well as visualization of product concepts. Ultimately, this project will support quality control of components manufactured at Eskilstuna site and ensure better quality of construction machines.
