Job description

Massive Entertainment is a world-leading AAA studio located in Malmö, Sweden and part of the Ubisoft family. We’re a multinational team of more than 750 passionate and highly skilled people from 50+ different countries. Our studio’s goal has always been – and still is – to craft the finest gaming experiences for all players.

At Massive, you get to do what you love most while bringing your own experience to our ongoing projects, like Tom Clancy’s The Division 2, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, and Star Wars Outlaws. We're also developing new tech here, such as our in-house engine Snowdrop, and Ubisoft Connect - Ubisoft's digital ecosystem and distribution platform.

Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora™ is a first person, action-adventure game developed by Massive Entertainment – a Ubisoft studio in collaboration with Lightstorm Entertainment and Disney. Built using the latest iteration of the Snowdrop engine and developed exclusively for the new generation of consoles and PC, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora brings to life the alluring world of Pandora with all of its beauty and danger in an immersive, open world experience.

As a Narrative Designer at Massive, you will be responsible for conceptualizing, researching, writing, and designing the narrative flow of missions, with a focus on cinematic scripts and gameplay dialogue.

As a part of the narrative team, you will collaborate with other narrative designers, quest designers, and the narrative director to both create and implement your dialogue scenes in Snowdrop. We’re looking for people who bring a broad set of skills, experiences, backgrounds, perspectives, and talents to craft our worlds and connect the player to the stories and characters within them. We work best with storytellers who can be comfortable in a hybrid role as both designer and writer, working hands-on with the team to shepherd their own stories from inception to gameplay.

We're offering a permanent position in Malmö, Sweden, with the flexibility to work partially from home (up to two days a week) under our Flexible Workplace Policy.

 What you’ll do:

·  Conceptualize and write quests that are consistent with the IP tone and quality;
·  Use our internal tools to design, write, and implement narrative gameplay content;
·  Collaborate with Level Designers, Artists, Audio, Quest Designers, Narrative Designers, Leads, Directors and more;
·  Research and write narrative elements to anchor a reality-based narrative within an existing IP;
·  Develop and execute a writing schedule together with the support of an Associate Producer;
·  Document narrative material, making it accessible to stakeholders (writers, quest designers, & level designers);
·  Participate in the development of tools and technology to improve our narrative workflow;
·  Provide organized responses to last minute rewrites or changing mission/game structures.
·  Support other writing, design, narrative, and lore needs of the game, as needed or directed.

What you’ll bring

You have a passion for storytelling, but you also take pride in enabling and collaborating with the team around you to deliver the highest possible quality. You have an interest and passion for interactive storytelling, and have (or want to gain) the practical skills to bring interactive stories to life.  Besides the above we’re looking for someone aligned with our core values and the following skills and experience:

·  A relevant portfolio of your writing is required (2-3 samples that showcase your strongest work , one of which should be a longer/screenplay sample. The portfolio samples should not exceed 10 pages in total).
·  Experience with (non-linear) interactive storytelling, ideally for video games, from concept to completion within a large production.
·  Experience working in a writer’s room or another similarly collaborative writing environment;
·  Ability to follow an established style guide and rules of usage;
·  Ability to communicate complex narrative ideas to stakeholders from other disciplines;
·  Experience with, or willingness to learn, professional game design tools (i.e. Unreal, Unity, Twine)

Ubisoft’s 19,000 team members, working across more than 30 countries around the world, are bound by a common mission to enrich players’ lives with original and memorable gaming experiences. Their commitment and talent have brought to life many acclaimed franchises such as Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry, Watch Dogs, Just Dance, Rainbow Six, and many more to come. Ubisoft is an equal opportunity employer that believes diverse backgrounds and perspectives are key to creating worlds where both players and teams can thrive and express themselves. If you are excited about solving game-changing challenges, cutting edge technologies and pushing the boundaries of entertainment, we invite you to join our journey and help us create the unknown.
