Transformer Services Chargehand
1 MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB
· Leading a ‘Working Party’ installing transformers, primary and secondary plant and associated equipment. Installation work on various customer Wind Farms, Substation sites throughout the UK both onshore and offshore, including overseas Projects. Working to the highest standard of safety and quality, representing Siemens in an efficient and professional manner at all times.
2 POSITION IN ORGANISATION
· Reports to the nominated Line Manager
· May directly coordinate works for a specific work front and team staff or Third Parties
3 SCOPE OF JOB
· To ensure that all staff undertake their duties in compliance with company and client policies and procedures at all times.
· To ensure that a safe working environment exists by adhering to company health, safety and environment policies, and ensure full compliance with relevant legislation
4 QUALIFICATIONS
Essential:
· CCNSG Leading a Team Safely or SSSTS
· Ladder use (covered in CCNSG & SMSTS)
· Manual Handling (or CCNSG or SMSTS)
· Working at Heights (or CCNSG or SMSTS)
· Suitable Electrical / Mechanical qualification
Desirable:
· NG Competent Person & BESC or equivalent DNO authorisation
· First Aid at Work
· HSG47
· Asbestos Awareness (or CCNSG or SMSTS)
· Confined Spaces
· Fire Safety / Awareness
· Impressed Voltage
· Harness & Lanyard
· MEWP
· CDM Awareness
· IOSH Managing Safely (nominated)
· Apprenticeship with C&G / NVQ Level 3 in a relevant subject
· Working on Live Systems
Mechanical – as above plus:
· Lifting Supervisor
· Slinger Banksman
· MEWP
· Harness Awareness
· Telehandler
· Working on Earthing Systems
5 EXPERIENCE
· Minimum 2 years experience working on electrical substations / construction sites
· Installation and maintenance of transformers
· Erection of primary plant and (or) secondary installations within the T&D industry
· Understanding of health and safety legislation and best practice
6 DUTIES & KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Health / Safety / Environmental / Quality:
· Conducts safety monitoring of both Siemens and Third Party staff
· Ensure that a safe working environment is provided at all times and obtains any necessary documentation such as, risk assessments and method statements
· Ensures that all work is carried out to a satisfactory quality and technical standard
· Act as a competent person under customer’s safety rules
· Responsible for maintaining the appropriate levels of housekeeping
· Ensure all appropriate Installation and Commissioning Records are completed and signed off
· Ensure compliance with work specifications, local management instruction, statutory requirements and health and safety issue
Contract Management:
· To take responsibility for a ‘working party’ or small site based projects, including giving direction to others, as requested by the appropriate management team or supervisor
· Notify the site supervisor / manager (as appropriate) of any difficulties in carrying out the committed work programme caused by inadequate drawings, delays, shortage of resources, manpower or materials and propose a suitable course of action
Staff Development:
· Commitment to progress through Siemens training and development programme (Improver Programme)
· Undertakes training in order to maintain competency requirements and develop themselves as necessary
· Provides a technical, engineering and advisory service to other staff in areas where he has particular expertise or experience
Day-to-Day Control:
· Plan day-to-day work for themselves and the working party.
· Act as the person in charge of the work area / party
· Complete weekly time sheet for monitoring workload
· Responsible for the completion of Work Progress Sheets / Job Cards
· Ensure that Vehicles / Plant utilised in the work area are managed according to the Red File requirements
· Anticipate problems and proactively address them
· Carries out any other duties within his competence as directed by the appropriate engineering support or supervisor
· Liaise with appropriate engineer, technician, resource scheduler, contractor personnel, customer representative and other persons (as required)
· Assist in the commissioning of new or refurbished equipment, within their competence, as required by the appropriate Engineering support
· Utilise a range of tools to complete the work
7 DIMENSIONS & LIMITS OF AUTHORITY
· Operates within an agreed budget
· May authorise expenditure within agreed budget for direct materials
· May authorise expenditure on in-directs to an agreed limit
