Job description

We are recruiting for Maintenance Supervisor with electrical and or mechanical backgrounds, ideally with experience of fault diagnosis and leading medium size teams. This role will be based out of the Manchester Ardwick depot, the Supervisor is responsible for the effective, safe operation of the maintenance facility.To undertake maintenance of rolling stock and carry out associated activities that support the operation of the depot.

What are my responsibilities?

ŸLead and direct shift team

ŸAllocate and manage resources to meet the daily production plan

ŸEnsure that all depot processes and procedures are followed

ŸControl of all depot operational movement of rolling stock

ŸManage operational safety issues affecting Siemens Mobility staff on a day to day basis

ŸAct as liaison with the customer for out of course events as required

ŸEnsure that maintenance is undertaken in accordance with Rail Group Standards and Siemens Mobility Rolling Stock VMI

ŸProvide guidance for team members on technical and operational issues

ŸResponsible for the shift handover

ŸLiaison with Train Presentation Supervisor where necessary

ŸCarry out internal cleaning and maintenance product audits eg Post Work Inspections

ŸReporting of plant and infrastructure defects

ŸEfficient recording of the operator's arrival and departures to the depot

ŸManagement of the team's annual leave according to guidelines

ŸManagement of the team's PPE and tool allocation

ŸResolve staff issues or escalate to Line Manager where appropriate

ŸUndertaken any other duties as and when required

ŸFollow the good examples set by members of the MMB in creating a robust H&S culture within Siemens Mobility

ŸSet an example by their own actions and activities

ŸSet targets and objectives for H&S and environmental for their direct staff, use the staff dialogues process for managing H&S and environmental objectives

ŸEnsure that directed staff are capable and competent to undertake the tasks allocated to them

ŸCommunicate and encourage feedback on H&S and environmental issues

ŸUndertake appropriate disciplinary action for any breach of H&S

ŸInvestigate accidents or incidents to determine basic causes, feedback information both up and down the organisation

ŸEnsure adequate H&S equipment is to hand and is used by employees

ŸUndertake H&S tours or inspections; take action where deficiencies are observed

ŸWhen unable to rectify or remedy unsafe situations either stop work if the risk is too high and/or report the deficiency (and involve BASEQ) to the appropriate member of the SMT for action

ŸPromote and use the BMS to control and manage work

ŸUnderstand the H & S and environment risks involved in any activity they control and ensure any mitigation designated to control that risk are effectively operated/implemented

ŸBe prepared and be competent to manage any for-seen emergency situations

ŸBecome involved in any work safe problem and help resolve that problem

ŸMaintain their competence to manage their own H&S and environmental responsibilities and contribute to their directs competence to manage their H&S and environmental responsibilities

ŸCooperate with the employer to ensure their statutory duties are fulfilled

What do I need to qualify for the role?

ŸMust have relevant experience in an electrical / mechanical engineering environment

ŸDetailed knowledge of the technical aspects of the Rolling Stock allocated to the depot

ŸComplete all records of actions and operations accurately and to procedures

ŸKnowledge of health and safety including risk assessment, manual handling and Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH)

ŸGood people management skills

ŸShould have attended Supervisor's training courses

ŸAdvanced knowledge of IT systems and software

ŸGood communication, planning and organisational skills
