About Smart Infrastructure – Electrification and Automation:

The Electrification and Automation (EA) Business Unit offers the full range of energy distribution systems and solutions for all markets and through all sales channels. We provide reliable power distribution grids of today while investing into our Future Grids portfolio and applications to create the power distribution grid of the future. Our comprehensive portfolio meets the growing technical requirements of today’s and tomorrow’s power grid!

We are looking for an Application Engineer - Large Projects. This position will be based in Wendell, NC.

The Engineer will play a significant role in business generation of Medium Voltage & Systems business unit by preparing comprehensive technical and commercial proposals and solutions that best fits our customer needs, while ensuring competitive pricing (projects involving and medium voltage switchgear, motor controllers, transformers, bus ducts and power equipment centers). The Engineer will work closely with Siemens Sales to prepare offers supporting customers in the industrial, construction and utility markets on technical, contractual, and commercial issues.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Participates in the design of complex hardware and software application solutions.
  • Participates in tracking complex orders to ensure that equipment, cost and delivery objectives are met by responding to customers promptly.
  • Participates in keeping records of complex specification costs and price estimates.
  • Participates in recommending alternatives or changes to complex customer specifications and/or processes to better match Company products to customer needs and to improve productivity.
Siemens Process, Tools, and Methodologies Utilized:

  • Salesforce.com to receive and track work assignments.
  • Workstation2001 to prepare technical offers
  • NxTools+ to prepare technical offers
  • LOA Process to receive pricing approval

You’ll win us over by having the following qualifications:

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering
  • 3+ years engineering experience in an EPC, engineering, manufacturing, utility, or industrial corporate environment.
  • Experience with the design and application of electrical power distribution products and power systems/ power delivery.
  • Familiarity with ANSI, IEEE, UL and NEMA standards for power distribution applications and the best practices.
  • Knowledge of relay P&C schemes, schematics, communication network diagrams.
  • Ability to analyze customer’s technical documentation to interpret and apply appropriate Siemens product offerings to meet the customers’ expectations in cost-effective and timely manner, offer alternative solutions to optimize profitability while meeting customer needs.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Masters degree
  • Experience with preparing 3D Layout drawings tools such as AutoCad, Revit, etc.

  • The pay range for this position is $72,380 - $124,080. The actual wage offered may be lower or higher depending on budget and candidate experience, knowledge, skills, qualifications and premium geographic location.
