Job Description:

Position Overview:

Siemens is looking for a degreed engineer that has strong knowledge in solid mechanics (stress) and acoustics engineering to support its Gas and Power business.The candidate will be part of the Core Technologies team in the Research and Development department work on compressor and power generation equipment for the oil and gas industries.The qualified individual will help develop new products, resolve field issues, performing failure evaluations, participate in quality improvement / cost reduction efforts while providing technical support to manufacturing, sales, and product engineering.The position will be located at the Olean, New York location.

The individual must be familiar with evaluating the structural suitability of components and assemblies to meeting industry specifications and regulatory requirements.He or She shall have hands-on experience with finite element methods to simulate stress and displacement on structures due to static and transient loads. Experience in performing modal analysis to determine structural frequencies and associated mode shapes and harmonic response analysis to determine vibration amplitudes is also required.

As an acoustic engineer, you are responsible for controlling noise levels prediction and mitigation.The individual must be familiar with the fundamental scientific principles to find ways to monitor and manipulate sound levels to improve sound clarity.He or she will support the development within the field of fluid structure interactions (FSI).

Position Qualifications (Required and Preferred):

Required:

·  MS in Aerospace/Mechanical/Civil or Structural Engineering
·  Minimum 3 years of experience in stress design for a variety of rotating mechanical equipment and structure.
·  Experience in using ANSYS Structural (Mechanical APDL/Workbench), and other computer codes (e.g. Matlab, B&K Pulse, etc.)
·  Proficient with vibration and acoustic basics
·  Structural simulation experience with FEA
·  Experience with noise and vibration measurement would be beneficial
·  Ability to clearly and precisely communicate, both written and verbally, at all levels of the organization and with clients.
·  Candidate should be self-motivated, well organized and able to prioritize work.
·  Pleasant personality with good interpersonal skills.

Preferred:

·  PhD in Aerospace/Mechanical/Civil or Structural Engineering
·  Fundamental understanding of fluid motion forces interacting with surfaces noise cancelation
·  Experience/Exposure in using an ADRE 408 system
·  Good general applied mechanical skills.
·  Exposure to fluid flow models is a plus.
·  Knowledge of turbo/rotating machinery is a plus.

Position Responsibilities and Duties:

·  Detailed simulation and evaluation of highly loaded rotating components using FEA including analysis and optimization.
· 
Structural integrity analysis using FEAon various turbo-machinery components to determine feasibility based on static mechanical and thermal loads.

· 
Focused on developing technologies to improve noise reduction on various turbo-machinery units.

· 
Support development within the field of FSI (fluid structure interaction).

· 
This includes any necessary role in establishing the functional capabilities of software used to predict static or dynamic properties.

· 
Generating and handling large finite element models.

· 
Knowledge of standard engineering materials (carbon and stainless steels, etc.).

· 
Performs thorough investigations of various engineering topics (e.g. field failures).

· 
She or He shall have the ability to clearly and precisely communicate effectively both orally & written.

· 
Candidate should have good listening skills and accurately relay of information to other engineers.

· 
Possess computer skills in MS Word, Excel, Power Point, Adobe, Outlook, and Project.
