Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy in Hull is at the centre of the UK’s renewable energy sector.
The state-of-the-art factory began production in September 2016 after a build of only 21 months, opening three months ahead of schedule. The production line creates the 75-metre long blades for Siemens Gamesa’s market-leading 7Mw Direct Drive offshore wind turbines.
Each 28 tonne blade is fabricated, finished and inspected by hand. Siemens Gamesa employs around 1,000 people at the Alexandra Dock site, with more than 97 per cent of employees living within 30 miles. Blades and the other essential components necessary to build an offshore wind turbine are loaded at the bespoke three-berth dock, ready for shipping out via the Humber estuary.

The Role:-
The Slinger/Signaller is responsible for attaching and detaching the load to and from the crane load lifting attachment and for the use of correct lifting equipment in accordance with the planning of the operation. They are also responsible for relaying the signals to the crane operator and directing the movement of the crane and load. When the slinger Signallers are not involved with lifts they carry out Service Operative activities.
Activities they carry out are:-
Support the processing and movement of loads/materials as part of production.
Adherence to the Safe System of Works, in accordance with the Lift Plan including completion of Pre-User operational checks.
Lead and supervise the lifting operation by Initiating and directing the safe movement of the crane via clear signals and or verbal instructions to the crane driver, and exerting control of the lifting zone.
Ensure all persons participating within the lifting operation are competent to perform their task and ensure the lifting plan is reviewed in a tool box talk.
Ensure that all related defects / safety observations are reported and that any defective equipment is isolated or quarantined.
Follow Siemens Environment, Health and Safety Standards as required, including the reporting of any defects and safety observations.
Who are we looking for:-
You will have the ability to work efficiently and safely in a controlled manner with a methodical approach and ability to follow both verbal and written instructions as part of a team.
Having excellent communication skills and a desire to continuously improve yourself will make you a good fit for the team
You will need to have experience in some or all of the following, operation of electric overhead cranes or lifting machinery. An understanding and appreciation of the LOLER regulations / ACOPS. Conversant with all of the duties a slinger/signaller is responsible for and understanding the signal codes as defined in BS7121
Ideally you will have Slinger/Signaller certificates and experience of tandem lifting operations and rotation of large loads. But this is not essential.
