As part of thelast bigphase of recruitment for our Wind Turbine Blade Manufacturing Facility in Hull we are advertising for Production Operatives to work within our Finishing Department. Our Finishing Production Operatives are responsible for preparing the blades prior to painting. They use their skills to sand, fill and plaster the blade once it has been cast. Our blades will be 75metres long and will be installed offshore on some of the biggest planned Wind Farms across the UK and Europe.
We are looking for candidates who possess very high levels of attention to detail with the ability to follow instructions in a logical and safe manner. If you have a passion for delivering quality and work well within a team environment this could be the job for you.
To be considered for this role you should have experience of working with hand tools ideally sanding, filling, grinding or plastering. Trades including carpentry, joinery, plastering, boat building or other composite surface preparation skills are highly transferable.
Finishing Operatives carry out wet lay-up work on the blades after the casting process, and final preparation prior to painting. They use their skills to mark out and accurately grind away areas of cured fiberglass. They use epoxy resin and fiberglass sheets as well astwo part fillers to smooth over imperfections and sand the blade to a paint ready finish using orbital sanders.
Full training will be given in these processes.
This is one of the more physically demanding roles suited to those who are resilient and possess endurance, long periods will be spent in full PPE including paper suits and air fed hoods. Good eyesight is required to spot any potential faults.

What are my responsibilities?
· Organise and use materials, tools and equipment
· Plan and lay out work, following strict engineering specifications and quality standards
· Carry out grinding, sanding and filling of blade exactly as specified during training and on the job coaching
· Use raw fiberglass sheets and epoxy resin to carry out wet lay-up lamination
· Checking of work to ensure high levels of attention to detail
· You will often be working in full protective suits with air fed hoods. This role can be hot and physically demanding.
· This role involves standing, twisting, stretching and lifting whilst paying close attention to the health and safety of yourself and those around you
· You must be able to follow instructions exactly as you are directed and not take short cuts or implement process improvements without following the correct procedure
What do I need to qualify for this role?
· Sanding, grinding, filling or plastering experience essential
· Welding/fabrication/engineering work following plans & drawings essential
· Experience in Ship building/Surf board/Aircraft/Automotive or other composite surface preparations within manufacturing advantageous
· Experience of working with fillers
· Health and safety certification advantageous
· Small crane or lifting license/experience advantageous
· Resilience and endurance
· Focus on health and safety is essential
· Exceptional levels of attention to detail
· Must be passionate about high quality and able to follow procedures and work instructions
· Must be able to work well as part of a team as well as on your own
· A desire to continuously improve
· Able to work a shift pattern that includes nights and weekends
What else do I need to know?
• You will receive up to 5 weeks training at the Composite Technical College in Hull before learning on the job at our Blade Manufacturing Facility at Alexandra Dock.
· You will work a shift pattern that will include nights and weekends, plus some hand over time at the beginning and at the end of each shift. You would normally work an average of 40 hours per week.
