The Principal Signal Engineer is the primary technical focus for signal engineering in the regional office. They will liaise with other Principal Signal Engineers to set the technical strategy for project delivery across the business and provide a regional framework for the technical elements of project delivery. This role will be the focal point for the resolution of technical issues and provide support to projects in the portfolio.

The Principal Signal Engineer will develop the engineering capability in the region, in cooperation with the Engineering Manager and according to the business strategy and will provide development opportunities and ensuring training and mentoring of all engineering staff including graduates and trainees.

. What are my responsibilities?

· Provide the technical architectures against which projects are delivered nationally and regionally
· Ensure regional compliance with technical standards and procedures
· Ensure regional competence measures are maintained and developed, including IRSE licenses and Authorities To Work (ATW).
· Champion, sponsor and participates in continuous improvement; implementation of project delivery efficiency initiatives
· Implement an assurance regime to ensure compliance with standards and implement corrective actions.
· Undertake work on projects as required by the Engineering Manager and Regional Director.
· In conjunction with the Engineering Manager, develop and implementation of technical learning sessions, regionally and nationally.
· Act as mentor to the engineering community and promote professional development.
· Resolution of technical issues
· Creation and implementation of staff development plans and guidance of staff through IRSE exams
· Maintenance of regional competence

What do I need to qualify for this job?

Essential

· Incorporated Engineer or higher
· Member of the IRSE
· Established professional status within the signalling industry; will have significant experience of engineering implementation on large signalling schemes in the UK.
· Supportive of a consistent companywide approach to continuous improvement.
· A broad base of engineering skills, experiences, knowledge and competencies covering the full engineering lifecycle.
· Previous experience in Systems Engineering, Project Engineering, Design and Test of signalling systems.
· Competence in several areas of railway signal engineering at the highest level.
· Recognised as a senior expert in the signalling industry

Desirable

· Chartered Engineer or equivalent
· Successfully passed IRSE examinations or demonstrable equivalent
· Fellow of the IRSE
· Experience of overseas engineering delivery and metro signalling.
· Experience in the CRE / CEM roles
· Testing qualifications Modules 1, 2 or 3
