Siemens Electrification and Automation is seeking experienced professionals in power transmission & distribution, in the field of substation automation and protection relay engineering to join our growing team of Power Systems Engineers
We are looking for Power System Protection Engineer. This position will be based at Wendell, NC.
Role Description:
- Design, implement, and maintain protective relay systems and associated equipment for power systems.
- Prepare (FAT & SAT) Factory & Site Acceptance Test procedures for protection systems projects.
- Prepare Test Set (Omicron, Doble, etc...) routines for various protection applications.
- Configure and test relays for protection and controls schemes of substations systems.
- Collaborate with a team of professionals to develop protection schemes that meet industry standards and customer requirements.
- Be one of our primary customer interfaces, including trouble shooting and commissioning support.
- Provide technical support throughout the project lifecycle, including design, implementation, and commissioning phases.
You’ll win us over by having the following qualifications:
Basic Qualifications:
- BS in Electrical Engineering
- 2+ years of relevant engineering experience preferably in power systems protection engineering field.
- Ability to read and fully understand DC and AC schematics, three- and one-line diagrams for Medium and/or High Voltage substations systems.
- Knowledge of Siemens, GE, SEL or ABB relay products and associated software.
- Applied knowledge of Medium Voltage Protection
- Overcurrent / Over-Undervoltage
- Transformer Differential
- Motor Protection
- Around 75% of travel is expected depending on project assignments and requirements.
- Legally authorized to work in the United States on a continual and permanent basis without company sponsorship. Exceptions are:
- Siemens employees working in similar roles in other countries that are eligible for L1B Visas.
- Candidates that already have a valid H1B visa with at least 3 years remaining of validity.
- Candidates that already have a valid TN visa.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Applied knowledge of Medium and High Voltage Protection
- High and Low Impedance Busbar Differential
- Line Differential and Distance Protection
- Generator Protection
- MV transfer schemes and reverse interlocking schemes.
- Communication Network Technologies, including Design, Configuration, and troubleshooting of ethernet switches for protection applications such as IEC-61850 Process Bus and GOOSE applications.
- Knowledgeable on communication protocols such as IEC61850, DNP, Profibus, OPC, Modbus, IEC101, IEC104.

- The pay range for this position is low ($79,600) – high ($107,400). The actual wage offered may be lower or higher depending on budget and candidate experience, knowledge, skills, qualifications, and premium geographic location.
