Job description
Based out of the Derby office, the Materials interface engineer is responsible forproviding the interface between design, procurement and installation functions to enable efficient, cost effective ordering and supply of project materials to the correct standard and specification.
Key Responsibilities:
Liaise with all other departments to efficiently control the process of project variations/change.
Interact with design and installation to determine the correct definition of materials required for the project.
Monitor the use and identification of components and parts so that a full audit trial is available on all materials and purchases.
Ensure that all documentation meets and exceeds project requirements including relevant legislation, standards, and guidelines incorporating traceability and quality control.
Liaise with manufacturers and 3rd Party Suppliers to ensure that all products meet the requirement of railway-specific standards.
To develop designated material lists which reflects company/project requirements by consolidating all information into palletised system.
Ensure that all materials ordered have the correctly identified part number via use of the current Business Systems.
To review and ensure that all updated versions from design have been correctly identified and appropriate material changes have been initiated.
Assist in raising Bills of Materials for project civil requirements that are registered on current Business systems at an early stage of the contract so that part numbers can be issued in time before procurement commences.
Liaise with Chippenham, 3rd Party Suppliers and R&D to keep up to date with new products and ongoing changes.
Responsible for obtaining quotations where framework agreements are not in place.
To negotiate and manage suppliers through effective, productive and robust purchases.
Investigate alternative sources of supply where appropriate and where technology, quality, cost services and delivery can be improved.
Obtain best value from suppliers of materials, services and consumable goods, on behalf of the Senior Commodity Supply Chain Manager. Some travel to otherSiemens Rail sites and suppliers may be required.
To plan place and progress orders for materials, services and consumable goods with suppliers while monitoring cost, quality and delivery performance, for project requirements.

Essential:
· Good communication skills
· Self-motivation
· Excellent understanding ofSiemens RailBusiness Systems
· Good understanding of railway based products and materials
· Proven track record within Supply Chain function
· Ability to communicate at any level from Site Based Personnel to external suppliers at Director level
· Able to communicate relevant information to those who need to know (eg Managers, Project Leaders, Quality and Safety Engineers and colleagues)
