Position Overview
Under minimal supervision, the Material Handler I is responsible for the movement of material throughout the production facility while adhering to all company policies and operational processes and procedures. The Material Handler I will pull, prepare and stage job materials in assigned manufacturing work cells or staging areas to include material presentation load and unload material onto transports and trucks as well as assist with rigging of material on the manufacturing floor and on truck with the use of pallet jacks, forklift, or other equipment. The Material Handler I will also remove and dispose of packing, scrap, material, skids and cardboard, etc., in the manufacturing area, storeroom and receiving area as necessary.
What your day-to-day will look like:
Inventory Control Focus
- Effectively communicate with Planner
- Print drawings and labels for kits for PCB and Mechanical
- Pull and issue parts for shop order kits
- Distribute shop orders to floor upon completion
- Maintain all empty bins by refilling from overstock
- Update overflow location counts in spreadsheets
- Update material location in spreadsheets for parts
Shipping Focus
- Pull all material for shipping kits for shop orders
- Ordering of all work cell supplies
- Print labels for bags and boxes for materials
- Communicate with Quality/Planner for departing shipments
- Ship all material for customer orders, Repaired Materials (RMAs), and other miscellaneous shipments
- Must document all Serial Numbers(S/Ns) for products and give to Customer Service for generation of Pack slip
- Place UPS/FedEx shipments next to garage door for pick-up
- Place orders for all shipping material supplies
- Work directly with Quality before any shipments leave the dock (All packing slips MUST be verified by Quality prior to the truck being called)
- Schedule all trucks to pick up shipments
- Ordering of all work cell and packing supplies
- Create and move LeanKit cards
Receiving Focus
- Sign in and receive all materials before the end of the day then take to the correct place in the stockroom
- Check all materials for correct and matching part numbers
- Clearly identify all materials with labels before putting in stockroom
- Effectively communicate with Quality inspection on all material status
- Place all non-conforming materials on Red Tagged shelves
- Fill shortages for shop floor orders
- Run reports for allocation of shortages and give to Team leaders
- Sign for all material entering the building including RMAs (Notify RMA department)
- Perform housekeeping and 5S activities
- Adhere to all Siemens safety and work practices by keeping work area orderly at all times
- Ensure work area is accessible and safe for internal employees and customer traffic
- Inspect for damage and comparing inbound/outbound shipment to packing list and bill of lading to ascertain that quantities, destination and processing are correct
- Identify and communicate any discrepancies or questionable conditions related to the task at hand
- Assist with cycle counts and navigating the MRP system
- Maintain Heijunka board on current counts daily
- Perform cycle counts as required
- Process basic non-inventory purchase order receipts
- Show competency in the use of the MRP system
- Use Kanban methodology to help team work together more efficiently
- Work overtime as required
- Frequent lifting of 10-50 pounds
To thrive in this role, you have:
- High School Diploma or equivalent required
- Knowledge of material flow and storage locations to ensure materials
- Intermediate computer skills
- Ability to use MRP system to track inventory
- Organization and time management skills are critical
- Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
- 2-3 years of material handling experience preferred
- Knowledge of SAP preferred
