Siemens Mobility is proud to launch our Military to Rail programme to enable skilled and experienced Military Technicians/Mechanics/Engineers with current or recent practical hands-on experience within a maintenance or repair environment to transfer these valuable skills to the Rail Industry. This scheme is open to those currently actively serving within the military or who have left within the last 2 years.
This programme will offer roles based out of our large depots to enable the right levels of support to be provided to help you have a successful transition, our participating locations are:
- Ardwick Train Care Facility, Manchester.
- York Train Care Facility, York
- Kings Heath Train Care Facility, Northampton
- Northam Train Care Facility, Southampton
- Hornsey and Three Bridges (Crawley) Thameslink Rail Depots
The Offer
We will offer the successful candidates an accelerated and intensive 6 - 8-week training programme which will help transfer their existing skills to the rail industry environment, at the end of this period you will then move into a full-time position within your chosen location, where you will complete the remainder of your initial training. We will support you by linking you with a Service Leaver to act as a mentor, as you adapt to your new working environment, we will also link you in with our wider Service Leaver/Veteran employee support group.
The Role
Our Maintenance Technicians carry out scheduled and unplanned maintenance and repair activities of the various mechanical and electrical systems found throughout the train, including routine timely servicing and preventative maintenance as well as the more involved activities of fault finding and rectification.
The Person
We are looking for experienced and skilled electrical and mechanical technicians and fitters who have recent experience of maintenance, repair or overhaul of vessels, vehicles, aircraft, support equipment or other equipment where general maintenance and repair has been conducted.
We would like you to have a Level 3 qualification in a technical area, however, having an equal amount of practical technical experience would be considered. The Process
Applications for the programme will be open until the end of March 2024, after which an initial review of applicants will take place. If your application is accepted, you will be invited to undertake a small number of online tests in Maths, Comprehension and Spatial Reasoning
The next stage would be to attend an Assessment Centre in Northampton or Goole (dates to follow) to be assessed against our criteria for the roles. This will look at your alignment with our values, your base competencies and a technical test linked to your specialisation.
For those successful at the Assessment Centre, you will be offered a role with Siemens starting in October 24, after an initial onboarding at your chosen facility you will then undergo a 6 – 8 week induction period, covering various training topics.
