Job Description:

The HVAC Controls Technician I position is a challenging role in which individuals commission Building Automation Systems into operation.Building Automation Systems include all the electronic equipment that manages the energy usage, environmental condition, safety operations like smoke control or pressurized spaces, and most mechanical equipment for the heating/cooling of the building spaces.Specialists first learn how to identify control devices and test/verify them on the systems they operate. They then continue their development in learning to bring the complete systems into operation through manipulation of custom programming.Specialists eventually grow to manage all aspects of the startup and commissioning of Building Automation Systems with additional duties including estimating, planning, tracking, and coordinating other labor.

Position Overview

·Attends engineer to specialist turnover meetings to evaluate the accuracy of design drawings and job layout. Reviews plans, specifications, and design drawings to determine project requirements.

·Ensures products are installed properly for their desired function and purpose.

·Troubleshoots possible issues including identifying and debugging software, electrical failures, pneumatic failures and other installation problems.

·Occasionally selects product sizes, types, and location placement to ensure products meet specification requirements.

·Prepares database and job related programming for computer-based systems. Prepares and justifies specialist re-estimate reports.

·Provides on-site assistance or performs the installation and start-up, checkout and turnover process.

·Participates in job site final walk-through on assigned jobs and completes all job closeout documentation.

·Trains end user customers on how to operate the Building Automation System.

·Acts as a technical resource to existing customers and field employees as needed.

·Coordinates work with subcontractors and contractors.

Required Knowledge/Skills, Education and Experience

·HS diploma or equivalent required.

·Specialized skill training/certification may be required.

·Successfully demonstrates advanced knowledge of a technical or specialty area that does not need to be related to Building Automation Systems.

·Demonstrated self starter with excellent communications skills.

·Troubleshooting skills in mechanical and electrical systems.

·Capable of working with teams of individuals as well as on one's own.

·Must be knowledgeable with MS Word and Excel.

·Individual must possess a valid Driver's license in good standing, and must be at least 21 years of age in order to participate in the required Siemens vehicle plan.

·Individual must be capable of working on construction sites and have a commitment following safety practices.

Preference Given To:

·Those with a previous career filed that is technical, requires trouble shooting skill and is “hands on” in nature.

·Previous Building Automation or DDC Controls experience.

·Demonstrated self starters with excellent communications skills.

Travel:

This position will require travel for both training and work purposes.At time, travel can be up to 40% but should usually be much less.Most work related travel will be within Alaska, however, occasional support is needed in the Hawaiian Islands and possibly Guam.Training travel can occur in any of the west coast states from Alaska to California and often occurs in Chicago, Illinois.
