Siemens is offering a user focussed engineer the opportunity to work as part of the Human Factors / Ergonomics team. As a Human Factors Engineer, you would work with a world class interdisciplinary team to provide effective, technically advanced, and user focussed products. The HF team provide expertise to:
· Tenders: Identifying innovative solutions for demanding clients.
· Research & Development: Developing a family of signalling, train control and protection systems.
· Projects: Delivering complex turnkey Mainline and Mass Transit (Metro) railway solutions.
You need to be enthusiastic in the subject of human factors / ergonomics and the benefits it can bring. You should be proactive, eager to acquire new skills and willing to learn from others. An aptitude for understanding multidimensional problems, and complex products, systems and development processes is essential. As are excellent inter-personal and communication skills, the talent for compromise, and the ability to work in a team and under your own initiative.
What are my responsibilities?
· Provide technical expertise in human factors to tenders, R&D, projects and improvement initiatives
· Work closely with project managers and engineering teams to promote a good understanding of human factors capabilities and ensure smooth and effective integration of human factors throughout design, development and implementation
· Produce a human factors integration plan to ensure HF methods and activities are suitably integrated with other project activities and conducted at the appropriate time, using suitable methods
· Apply human factors methods and design principles to ensure:
· All human factors requirements for the system and its components are identified,
· User requirements and capabilities are considered throughout design, development and implementation,
· Users are engaged appropriately throughout the project lifecycle,
· Compliance with relevant human factors standards and good practice,
· The delivered product or system is fit-for-purpose, meets user needs, promotes effective, efficient and safe working, and is acceptable to users.
· Build good working relationships with equivalent human factors staff in external parties
· Deliver high quality deliverables as required to record human factors activities and provide evidence of compliance with human factors and client standards and processes
· To assist in the provision of a Company archive of human factors related data for use by future projects
What do I need to qualify for this job?
· HNC, HND, Degree or equivalent in Psychology, Ergonomics, Human Factors or a related discipline (essential)
· Experience of working in large, multi-discipline teams (essential)
· Excellent communication and presentation skills and the ability to produce high quality documentation to tight timescales (essential)
· A willingness to work towards Registered Membership of the CIEHF (essential)
· Experience in employing human factors techniques in design. For example Human Factors Integration, workload analysis, HMI design, user and stakeholder engagement, workstation layout, control room design, and maintainability
· Experience working in a safety critical industry preferably Rail
