The challenge

Embark on a journey with Siemens small gas turbine manufacturing company which has existed on its present site in Lincoln for over 50 years. Lincoln is the base for the design and manufacture of world class gas turbines for applications, within the Oil and Gas Industry and Industrial Power Generation. Today the Lincoln business employs around 1200 people and is a major exporter with more than 3300 units sold operating in 89 countries.You could work at the cutting edge of engineering and be a part of this exciting and innovative company-

· Your first 10 months will be spent studying full time at college to give you an understanding of basic engineering operations, leading to an NVQ Level 2 in Performing Engineering Operations. You’ll also undertake the first year of a technical qualification.
· Your second and further years of the programme Apprentices are based on site 4 days per week. Undertaking training towards an NVQ Level 3 and attend College one day per week to complete their Technical Certificate with the possibility of further or higher education.

You’ll gain the below skills and knowledge during your NVQ Level 3 Training as an Craft Mechanical Engineering Apprentice -

· Produce Mechanical or Electrical engineering drawings using a computer aided drawing (CAD) system.
· Produce engineering drawings/models using 3D computer aided techniques.
· Resolving engineering or manufacturing support problems.
· Planning and implementation of engineering activities.
· Determining engineering requirements for the supply of products or services to customers.

The candidate

We’re looking for bright, inquisitive students who want to make a difference -

· GCSE’S grade C or above in Maths, English, Science are required and an Engineering based subject is desirable
· An interest in practical engineering aligned to a problem-solving attitude
· Are flexible, know how to connect with others and pride yourself on bringing positive ideas to the team
· Enjoy jumping in and, with the support from us, feel comfortable taking responsibility for tasks
· Want to succeed, aspire to excellence and think outside the box

Future Prospects

Completion of the Apprenticeship, subject to a good training record, could lead to a full time position in your chosen career path with a starting salary of +£21k and the possibility of further and higher education.

During your on the job training you may be expected to do shift work: 06:00 till 14:00 or 14:00 till 22:00. In addition, as part of the College technical course you will be expected to attend evening classes up to 21:00 one evening per week.
