Electrical Engineer – Gas Turbine Power Plant I

Position Overview:

The Electrical Systems Engineering group is responsible for the specification, selection, design review, and quality control, for simple and combined cycle power plant equipment including, but not limited to, the following components and systems: Power Control Centers; Static Excitation Systems; Low Voltage Switchgear; DC Systems -- Batteries / Battery Chargers; Protective Relaying Systems; and interconnecting raceway and cable design.

The successful applicant for this position will work in an international and inter-disciplinary team setting and will be required to implement the electrical equipment in self-reliant work manner. Additional tasks include the support of customer meetings and other engineering disciplines with respect to the electrical design of equipment provided by Siemens Energy Inc. and its integration in the power plant.

Responsibilities:


Responsibilities of this position include the timely delivery of purchasing specifications, creation of conceptual and detailed technical design interface documentation in accordance with project requirements and respective interface coordination. In addition, tasks comprise the evaluation of technical compliance of vendor quotations in order to support vendor selection in collaboration with Supply Chain Management (SCM) as well as review and approval of technical equipment documentation provided by vendors to ensure compliance with the specified technical requirements.

Further responsibilities include:

·  Conduct design reviews and discuss any lessons learned with chosen equipment suppliers to ensure all requirements of the technical specifications are understood and will be met.
·  Coordinate with Architect/Engineers, partners, and Customers to support timely transmittal and understanding of technical documents. Review and approve design documents submitted by suppliers.
·  Conduct Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) for any or all of the components and systems listed below. Ensure all components are thoroughly tested and meet the performance and quality requirements established in the technical specification.
·  Ensure completeness of equipment documentation provided by suppliers including installation manuals as well as operation and maintenance manuals.
·  Support commissioning, and start-up activities for any or all of the components and systems listed below. Conduct readiness reviews and participate in pre-commissioning activities with supplier Technical Field Assistants (TFAs).
·  On occasion conduct design reviews and equipment inspections at vendor facilities

Equipment in the scope of supply of the Electrical Systems Engineering group include the following components:

·  Low Voltage Motor Control Centers and Switchgear
·  Battery and Battery Chargers
·  Generator Protection Systems and associated Parameter Setting Calculation
·  Generator Excitation Systems and Starting Frequency Converters
·  Low Voltage Transformers (Rectifier Load)
·  Generator Neutral Point Grounding Transformers
·  Pre-fabricated Metal Enclosers (Power Control Center)
·  Cables and Cable Raceway Design

Required Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience:

·  B. S. in Electrical Engineering or high school diploma/GED plus 10+ years of direct experience
·  5 – 8 years of experience in technologies related to referenced equipment and electrical power system applications
·  Required amount of travel 5%
·  Required knowledge, skills, or expertise
·  Excellent team working skills in a global inter-disciplinary environment
·  Excellent communication skills (fluent in English spoken/written)
·  Excellent analytical skills,
·  Excellent problem-solving competency,
·  Proficient in MS Office (Excel, Windows, Outlook etc.),
·  Must be a self-starter and perform under time constraints
·  Qualified Applicants must be legally authorized for employment in the United States and will not require employer sponsored work authorization now or in the future for employment in the United States.

Preferred Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience:

·  5 – 8 years of experience in power plant project implementation
·  Knowledgeable in Protection Relay Software (e.g. DIGSI, Beckwith, SEL)
·  Knowledgeable in Generator Excitation Systems
·  Knowledgeable in Medium Voltage Drives (VFD)
·  Experienced in Document Management Systems such as SAP KFP
