Job Description

Siemens Energy Management has an exciting opportunity for a Control Operations Technician . You will ensure that the HVDC converter stations are kept in good operational condition thorough through carrying out control operation functions functions, liaising with other System Operators, delivering a preventative maintenance schedule and continuing to meet performance requirements. This role will suit individuals from the transmission, distribution, utility, generation or processing industry with a control, operational or maintenance background, and will involve the following:

·  Ensure compliance with Work Specifications, Local Management Instructions, statutory Requirements and Health & Safety Issues.
·  Conduct safety monitoring of both Siemens and contractor staff and reporting as required.
·  Plan and implement maintenance routines for all plant and equipment to within scope of the contract.
·  Assist in the development of existing and new processes, maintenance routines to enhance the quality of service provided to the customer.
·  Ensure a safe working environment is provided at all times, and obtain or develop any necessary documentation such as, risk assessments and Method Statements.
·  Plan your day to day work, anticipate problems and accomplish tasks to standards of quality and time.
·  Take part in a 24/7 365day per year standby rota and provide flexible support whenever possible to support others who are on call.
·  Obtain authorisation as a Control Person (operations and safety) for carrying out, confirming and approving switching schedules/instructions under site Safety Rules.
·  Liaising with other System Operators to maintain power flow levels and carry out control functions to maximise reliability of the system.
·  Obtain Competent Person under site safety rules to receive and hold safety documentation with the potential to obtain Authorised Person for switching if desired.
·  Assist in the Investigation and rectification of faults and preparation of reports to comply with QA and customer requirements.
·  Ensure that all routine and reactive maintenance documentation is completed and uploaded on Maintenance Management System as specified in O&M procedures.
·  Ensure all work is carried out to a satisfactory quality and technical standard.
·  Escort and liaise with contractors on site for maintenance of assets.
·  Take part as a team member during outage maintenance, replacing/repairing assets and achieving outage times.
·  Complete weekly time sheet for monitoring workload.
·  Carry out other duties within competence as directed by the appropriate supervisor
·  Undertake training in order to develop as necessary on specialised equipment associated with the operation of a HVDC converter station.
·  Commitment to Siemens Think Customer initiative including excellent call handling and voice mail skills.
·  Abide by all business compliance requirements in line with Company policies.

What do I need to qualify for this job?

·  Formal Health & Safety qualification. IOSH Managing Safely or NEBOSH General Certificate.
·  Level 3 or 4 trade qualification desirable but not essential
·  Authorisation under safety rules as a Control Person, Competent Person or Person desirable but not essential.
·  Minimum 3 years' experience working or carrying out routines within a maintenance environment on industrial sites or electrical substations.
·  IT Literacy (MS Office including MS Project etc)
·  Good communication & interpersonal skills.
·  Demonstrate evidence of successful organisational skills.
·  Demonstrate evidence of successful team working abilities.
·  Demonstrate evidence of understanding of H & S legislation and Risk Management Process.
