Reporting to the Commercial Project Director, you will be responsible for:

  1. Project Mobilisation
    1. Support the Commercial Project Director in the handover from the Tendering and Estimating team of the financial elements of a successful bid, creating the baseline budget and full set up in the SAP system.
  2. Project Forecasting and Reporting
    1. Report project actual and forecast spend to support Work Package Managers (WPM) and the Project Manager (PM) in the financial control and forecasting of their budgets.
    2. Analyse new project forecasts, developing a view on robustness, timing, risk and opportunity. Review and, if necessary, challenge with both WPM and PM before finalising.
    3. Supporting/advising other commercial team members regarding process and financial governance
    4. Develop and maintain data-driven dashboards and reports to communicate key findings such as cost deviations to the Project Steering Committee and other stakeholders.
    5. Assure the foreign currency management on regular basis, mitigate and optimize detected risk exposure with aligned measures in timely manner during the execution phase.
    6. Monitor and report on regular basis the indexation development on cost and price to the Commercial Project Director
    7. Ensure all project reports and forecasts are submitted on time, accurate, and are understood and approved, where necessary, by the Siemens Project and Alliance Management teams.
    8. Establish & Coordinate processes with other commercial members on deliverables for Alliance reporting requirements.
    9. Working with other parts of the project team as necessary to prepare project reporting to the client and independent certifier where required, ensuring all project audit requirements are dealt with in a timely and professional manner.
    10. Responsible for maintaining Siemens Standard Internal financial reporting tools, (ROCCIT, DAsh, MIKA) & monitoring of technical PoC vs Financial PoC, especially considering the significant potential of deviation in terms of scope, program, overtime, etc. in such a complex brownfield project environment.
    11. Forecasting and tracking recovery against Overheads, ensuring the Reimbursable Cost Multiplier is adequate (RCM)
  3. Month End
    1. Calculate and review, where necessary, project accruals 3rd party services, materials and subcontractors.
    2. Reconciliation of individual hourly rates against timesheet bookings.
    3. Review with WPM and Cost Controllers of timesheets, incl. correction in SAP, Ensuring Project related bookings are charged & billed.
    4. Verify periodic costs to ensure month end position accurately reflects the financial position of the project.
    5. Support Commercial Project Director in validating month end performance supported by other Project members within the team.
  4. Accounts Receivable
    1. Supervise the setup, submission and processing of Payment Claims towards customer and from nominated supplier and subcontractors, including certificates and invoices, and all postings to the ledger.
    2. Actively monitor the payment cycle, in line with the bank account payment process of the client, ensuring any required actions are taken to maximize the cash position, chasing payments with customer where necessary
    3. On Target Cost/Cost reimbursable contracts, ensure timely and accurate provision of all supporting information to enable issuing, approval and payment of all actual costs claimed.
  5. Other Responsibilities
    1. Act as the independent conscience of the project ensuring the integrity of the financial status and forecast, escalating issues or concerns where necessary.
    2. Drive consistent steering actions to achieve the targets set by the business in terms of revenue, profits and cash
    3. Ensures the accuracy of project books and records, including recording of such in the appropriate systems, e.g. SAP - ensures compliance with Siemens-FRG plus the local Gaap requirements. Ensures all related Project Reporting and Controlling activities.
    4. Enforcing compliance to standards, rules, and regulations – interacting with experts from Accounting, FPM, Tax, Treasury, P&O and Legal when required

Measures for success

  1. Commercial Project Manager seen as a key partner and team player by Commercial Project Director, Project Director, Commercial Manager and Finance Team.
  2. All budgets and forecasts, together with key risks, issues and opportunities, are owned, approved and understood by all appropriate parties
  3. All submissions are accurate, robust and on time

What do I need to qualify for this job?

  • Holds a degree in Business, Commerce, Accounting or Economics, with sound understanding of Project Management methodologies.
  • Minimum 3-5 years Business Administrator / Cost Controller experience working within a contractor side project environment. Ideally you have experience with the application and execution of the Siemens Collaboration Model for large international projects (or equivalent) and have a corresponding commercial project certification
  • Experience on Alliance Model contracts & the understanding of the Cost Reimbursable principle would be beneficial.
  • The ability to analyse and use data to add value to a process or activity
  • Excellent SAP and Excel skills, ability to develop & maintain Macros
  • Strong communicator with the ability to challenge and influence others
  • Desire and ability to work closely and develop productive relationships with both Finance staff other project functions

  • Be prepared to travel if required, occasional travel to project sites
  • Excellent language skills (written and spoken) in English are required.
  • You have strong intercultural sensitivity and can work with teams and stakeholders from different countries and cultures, both internal and external
