Job Description:
Position Overview
As our Big Data Engineer for Digital Services youhave the opportunity to co-create innovative data-analytics solutions for our rail customers with rolling stock assets, infrastructure assets, and rail asset management systems. The development and production of advanced analytical solutions and machine learning algorithms will be driven by you in close collaboration with a global team of data scientists and platform engineers. In this exciting role you will be able to collect requirements, drive the creation of proof-of-concepts and prototypes, create end-to-end analytics applications to deliver tangible value to our customers, and thus drive the growth of digital services in the North American market.
This position enjoys mentoring of junior staff, commits to agile software development, and reports to the Lead Data Scientist, Digital Rail Services, North America.
Responsibilities
·
Collaborates closely with a global team of data scientists, engineering teams, solution architects, platform developers to develop innovative data-analytics prototypes and production solutions
·
Aggregates cloud-computing knowledge and is therefore a key enabler for our data scientists
·
Collaborates with the global platform engineering team to collect and communicate solution requirements
·
Organizes the development team and its solutions using agile software development
·
Is eager and self-driven to learn new services and stay on top of the latest trends in AWS cloud computing
Required Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience
· Bachelors or Master's degree in applied computer science or comparable degree, qualified IT specialist with several years of professional experience, or comparable qualification
·
5 years of experience in professional software engineering
·
3 years of relevant work experience
·
Proven experience in cloud-computing environments, either Amazon Web Services AWS or Google Cloud Platform
·
Demonstrably strong experience with programming languages Python, Java, or Scala.
·
Proven experience with large-scale data infrastructure, data processing, continuous integration and continuous delivery CI/CD
·
Experience in agile software development
·
Presentation skills
·
Committed to travel to our customers in the US (10%)
Preferred Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience
· PhD in applied computer science or comparable degree
· Preferred experience with video analytics and image processing
· Experience with modern big data technologies like Hadoop, MapReduce, Kafka, MQTT, Spark, MQTT etc
·
Experience with machine-learning libraries or frameworks like TensorFlow, Keras, scikit-learn, PyTorch, MXNet
·
Creativity and lateral thinking for feature generation in the data
·
