Application Engineer - Variable Speed Drives - South

We are looking for a Variable Speed Drive Specialist to join our applications team in the South of the UK.

This role is home based and includes a company car. Frequent customer site visits are expected as well as the opportunity for overseas training.

What are my responsibilities?

This interesting and stimulating position involves a unique mix of technical and customer activities:-

· Developing class leading knowledge of the Sinamics G and V range of drives, including the integration into TIA Portal and Simatic based motion control
· Developing & delivering presentations & demonstrations, conveying capability and technical solution feasibility, driving end user specification and supporting the DF & PD sales teams, Product Management and Business Development Manager
· Liaison with partners in Germany, improving product knowledge, and providing customer feedback into the development process
· Complex design consultation in accordance with customer/project requirements.
· Second tier technical escalation support to our Manchester Help Desk with occasional Help Desk cover during peak periods for variable speed drive enquiries

What do I need to qualify for this job?

•Applicants should be qualified to HNC, HND or degree level (or equivalent) in Electrical or Electronic Engineering or a relevant discipline.

•Comprehensive knowledge of Variable Speed Drives and how they integrate into an automation platform.

•Excellent communication and influencing skills with a strong technical aptitude for support & promotion of the Siemens DF & PD product range to new and existing customers.

•Experience in automation architectures involving multiple products and technologies is advantageous, but not essential as product / system training will be provided.

•A sound working knowledge of the industries and markets we serve.

•A team player with the ability to work effectively under time pressure.

•Candidates must be IT literate.

Previous experience in the application/programming/support of Sinamics with Simatic PLC knowledge would be advantageous.

This is a demanding and challenging opportunity requiring candidates to have a good understanding of industrial applications along with strong influencing skills, and experience working with customers in both a technical and sales support role.As this position involves considerable liaison with internal and external customers at all levels, excellent interpersonal skills are essential. Candidates should also enjoy working as part of a team and the ability to work effectively under time pressure is essential.

Regular intensive training will be provided giving the opportunity to develop skills and knowledge in the wider Siemens product portfolio.
