Job description

Aerodynamics Engineer (MDAO)

Offshore wind power plays a critical role in securing a renewable energy future. Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy (SGRE) is the world leader in offshore wind power with a growing backlog and strong investments in Offshore R&D. Join us and be a part of a rapidly growing industry with forecasted 25x increase in capacity by 2050.

The SGRE Blade Design department drives the growth of the offshore wind industry by designing the longest composite structures in the world that lower the cost of energy through technology innovation. The department is composed of experts in aerodynamics, aeroelasticity, aeroacoustics, composite structures, and controls, who work concurrently in an enriching open-office concept. Our world-class center offers an open, inspiring, and diverse working environment and is in downtown Boulder, Colorado - an amazing place to work and live with the Rocky Mountains at your doorstep and 300 days of sunshine.

SGRE is led by its engineers, who turn curiosity and passion for change into renewable solutions. As an Aerodynamics Engineer (MDAO), you will have the opportunity to develop our next generation MDAO framework for rotor conceptual design and drive our multi-generational tool development roadmap.

Responsibilities

•        Design, develop, and deploy a Multi-disciplinary Analysis and Optimization (MDAO) framework for rotor conceptual design using OpenMDAO

•        Work with management to develop multi-generational tool development roadmaps

•        Lead and contribute to the development of our in-house models and design tools in MATLAB, Python, and FORTRAN

•        Collaborate with a diverse group of engineers in a global, team-based environment

Required Knowledge, Education, and Experience

•        M.S. or Ph.D. degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, Systems Engineering, or similar field

•        5+ years of professional experience with multi-disciplinary design and optimization

•        Experience with OpenMDAO, adjoint methods, genetic algorithms, and other optimization methods

•        Proficiency with Python, MATLAB, and FORTRAN

•        Experience with HPC Linux clusters

It is imperative that you have the desire, drive, and ability to contribute to strategic multi-generational development roadmaps. It is also important that you have a customer-centric, collaborative, and consensus-seeking mindset as well as exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Knowledge and Experience

•        Experience with aerodynamic computational methods such as blade element momentum theory, panel methods, and RANS

•        Experience using Git and repository management platforms such as GitLab or GitHub.

Come join us and contribute to the worldwide expansion of offshore wind energy. Make real what matters, clean energy for generations to come.
