Job description

Siemens Magnet Technology (SMT), based in Eynsham, Oxfordshire, is part of the Siemens Healthineers Division and is a world leader in the design and manufacture of super-conducting magnet systems for MRI body scanners. Annually SMT make over 1100 magnets and a third of all MRI systems in the world contain superconducting magnets made at SMT.

In the workplace, you will be part of a busy maintenance team completing routine maintenance duties and fault finding activities. As an apprentice, you will receive first-rate training and tuition from both Siemens anda local training provider, and will take part in team-building days, volunteering events, and learner forums.

Year 1: You will spend the first year studying for a BTEC Level three qualification in Operations and Maintenance Engineering with a local training provider. During the summer, you will rejoin the maintenance team, and complete new starter training to develop the business-specific skills and knowledge and ensure you are safe onsite.

Year 2: You’ll attend the local training provider for one day a week to continue your BTEC qualification, and will spend the rest of your time as part of a busy maintenance team. You’ll complete a workplace development plan made up of coaching, placements, and projects.

Year 3: You’ll spend your third year developing and demonstrating technical, occupational, and professional competence, as you prepare for a role as a Maintenance Engineer.

You will earn a full-time salary through-out the programme and be eligible for yearly pay review.

If you’re looking to take your professional development further, the programme is EngTech-aligned, and there is the opportunity to take further engineering qualifications in your final year.

What are my responsibilities?

At the end of your three year apprenticeship programme you will have completed a nationally recognised Maintenance Engineer Apprenticeship that is approved by the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) and will fast track you towards an Engineering Technician professional registration. The programme is designed to give you a thorough understanding of the processes and techniques used in a modern production environment within one of the world’s leading manufacturing businesses.

What do I need to qualify for this job?

Essential:

· 4 GCSE (or equivalent) grades in Maths (B or above), English and Physics and/or Science/Technology related subject (C or above)
· Flexible approach and an enthusiasm for learning new skills.
· Disciplined, determined and dedicated to the success of the apprentice program.
· Displays a positive attitude and behavior.
· Effective communicator
· Interest in engineering, mechanics or science.
· Proven Team Player

Desirable

· Active member or leader of an organised group (Duke of Edinburgh Award/Cadets, etc)
· Enjoys problem solving and working with others to achieve solutions to complex technical challenges.
· Pragmatism – retains a positive attitude to changing conditions.
· Presents a professional appearance and outlook.
· Able to work with on own initiative, safely, methodically, accurately, without constant supervision.
· Prepared to study out of hours.
· Able to understand a wide range of technical / theoretical information and contribute practical solutions.
· Flexible approach to working hours in order to complete tasks.
