Siemens Rail Systems is the leading passenger train maintainer in the UK, looking after over 1600 vehicles for customers like Heathrow Express, London Midland, and South-West Trains.

The challenge

In the workplace, you will be part of a busy production team preparing trains for service, completing routine maintenance, and carrying-out fault finding. You will also visit other depots, departments, customers, and suppliers nationally, and take part in team-building days, volunteering events, and learner forums.

As an apprentice, you will receive first-rate training and tuition from Siemens, the National Training Academy for Rail (NTAR), andFareham CEMAST College.

Year 1: You will spend the first year studying foundation and general engineering at Fareham CEMASTCollege.

During the summer, you will return to your local depot to meet your line manager and team, and complete new starter training to develop the business-specific skills and knowledge and ensure you are safe onsite.

Year 2: You’ll attend college for one day a week, and spend the rest of your time as part of a busy production team preparing trains for service, completing routine maintenance, and carrying-out fault finding. You’ll complete a workplace development plan made up of coaching, placements, and projects, and undertake residential technical courses at NTAR.

Year 3: You’ll spend your third year developing and demonstrating technical, occupational, and professional competence, as you prepare for a role as a Traction and Rolling Stock Maintenance Technician.

You will earn a full-time salary through-out the programme and be eligible for yearly pay review.

You will also have the opportunity to visit other depots, departments, customers, and suppliers nationally, socialise with learners from across the country, and take part in team-building activities, community engagement events, and learner voice forums.

The candidate

· You should have 5 GCSEs A-C, 2 of them English Language and Maths
· You should have good communication skills, both written and verbal
· You should have good organisational and time management skills
· You should be collaborative with excellent team-working skills
· IT Literate - Microsoft Office
