Job description

The role 

To provide an efficient and effective claims service, which meets the identified needs of customers, whilst supporting the business plan by handling and coordinating to the highest technical standard claim-related duties, in order to achieve for cedants and the Company the most cost-effective settlement of those claims consistent with SCOR’s claims handling philosophy and our customer focused approach.

Assist in the creation of an “optimal” Claims organisation, building on the resources in the network of Hubs in order to create a market leading service proposition to both external clients and internal stakeholders.

As a member of SCOR Global P&C’s worldwide Claims Department the Claims Manager will: 

·  Manage a portfolio of reinsurance treaty claims from business predominantly underwritten within our Middle East & African Treaty Division. Business will include an established property, construction and motor treaty book and the role will include the claims adjustment and oversight of a number of losses under both proportional and excess reinsurance contracts.
·  Assist the Head of London & MEA Treaty Claims in the delivery of SCORs claims strategy and service for the Middle East and Arifca treaty portfolio emanating from the EMEA Treaty Division.Support the Head of London & MEA Treaty Claims in the handling of a largest and most complex losses as required and appropriate.
·  Support the EMEA Treaty Division Client Engagement Plan, by completing a number of clients visits and audits required on an annual basis.

Required experience & competencies

Experience

·  Senior insurance/reinsurance claims handling professional  
·  Extensive experience of the markets and practices within responsibility
·  Experience of managing a portfolio of complex claims within assigned business areas
·  Excellent technical experience of property and construction claims, and good network of third party experts
·  Demonstrate high level of technical competence in the managing and evaluation of claims
·  Knowledge of insurance regulation and legislation across affected jurisdictions

 

Competencies

·  Excellent knowledge of legal principles, policy wordings and insurance market practice relevant to the management, handling and reserving of claims
·  Good IT skills including Word, Excel and Power Point
·  Good knowledge of Claims MI reports and performance dashboards (Qlikview or Tableau)
·  Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
·  Trustworthy, honest, with high ethical and personal standards
·  Outcome focused, self-motivated, enthusiastic and energetic
·  Preferable candidate will be able to speak French

Required Education 

·  University degree or equivalent further educational qualification from a recognised university or college or alternatively, solid working experience in the industry;
·  Relevant professional qualification (preferred but not essential);
·  Further vocational training as appropriate

 

Key duties and responsibilities

·  Evaluating, developing, reporting on, and resolving complex and/or higher value individual claims, ensuring Underwriters are advised of any contractual/legal issues
·  Approving financial transactions on claims within the individuals authority
·  Comply with the reporting and control duties towards effective Claims Management.
·  Deliver on the division’s annual client engagement plan both locally and on major accounts, to support the underwriting & actuarial reserving process within EMEA Treaty Division.
·  Anticipate client needs and expectations and deliver superior customer service 
·  Collaborating and assisting in account management, including the regular engagement with clients, often working alongside other senior internal stakeholders
·  Analyse loss development in the portfolio, through the review of claims MI reports and assist in the development and implementation of plans to improve results
·  Work effectively with others within the Claims Department, particularly with other Claim Experts, the Major Loss and Closing Team and Technical Administration unit, to ensure prompt turnaround and response to clients
·  Work closely and effectively with other internal stakeholders including Underwriters and Actuarial, providing support and insight when required and appropriate
·  Liaise and support the claims departments in other SCOR EMEA hubs/branches as required and appropriate
·  Keep abreast of claim and industry developments/trends to maintain a high level of expertise 
·  Assist in  the monitoring of potential exposures (‘watchlist claims’) and reviewing appropriateness of historical reserves (‘statics’)
·  Review clauses and wordings in co-operation with Underwriting and the Legal Department
·  Demonstrate commitment for achieving team and department objectives and adjust work activities accordingly
·  Coach, mentor and assist in the training of more junior claim staff where appropriate
·  Participate in projects as required
·  Manage company resources responsibly and effectively
