Job description

Job Summary

As a capital analyst in Singapore, you will be supporting the regional head of capital management on capital recommendations to the management by providing concrete, transparent, and thorough analysis, through preparation of quarterly capital reports and capital committee presentations. In addition, you will be involved in annual and ad-hoc capital-related exercises, such as ORSA, optimal range review, quantitative impact studies, retrocession, and capital planning. 

The Capital Management function is a strategic–advisory branch of APAC Finance. Its main task revolves around identifying capital issues and inefficiencies within the nine jurisdictions in the APAC region, analyzing them, and proposing solutions or viable alternatives to management. Therefore, as a support to this goal, you would need to be fundamentally strong in both accounting and actuarial; critical; and able communicate and collaborate effectively.

Experience

·  Between 3–5 years of (re)insurance industry experience, particularly within risk management, finance, or actuarial—operating in a multinational and multicultural environment.
·  Strong understanding of insurance accounting and/or actuarial mechanics
·  Familiar in capital regulations and solvency calculations.
·  Excellent skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Powerpoint. 
·  Ability to produce documents neatly and efficiently.
·  Experience in VBA, SQL, SAP, or various actuarial projection tools is a plus.

·  Ability to communicate analysis in a clear, cohesive, comprehensible, concise, and correct manner in English—both written and verbal.
·  Industrious, critical, meticulous, and agile.
·  Good interpersonal skills.
·  Ability articulate risk-reward trade-offs from various viewpoints.
·  Willing to develop knowledge in reinsurance and Asia-Pacific regulatory environment.

Required Education 

·  Degree educated in Economics, Finance, Mathematics or equivalent.
·  Partial or full professional qualification in actuarial, accounting, risk management, or finance is an advantage

Key duties and responsibilities

Quarterly Capital Analysis

·  Analyze key drivers of capital changes such as deviations to plan, unexpected events, or changes in regulation and provide sound commentary on risks and solutions based on prevailing local regulations and constraints.
·  Prepare analysis and presentation for the APAC Capital Management Committee.
·  Support work around the Group Capital Committee. 
·  Perform deep-dive capital studies on selected entities.
·  Arrange meetings with various departments on key issues
·  Coordinate reporting for Group Capital team.
·  Monitor timelines around key closing dates and highlight issues.pre-emptively.
·  Maintain good rapport with FP&A, business, financial contollers, and actuarial teams.

Capital Projections

·  Collaborate with FP&A, business, financial controllers, and actuarial teams to forecast solvency positions
·  Support its computations, projections, and stress tests.
·  Update projections based on strategic plan and operating plan updates, whilst highlighting key risks and changes.
·  Participate in ORSA-related exercises and solvency optimal range reviews.
·  Assist in dividend planning, capital movements, and issuances of capital instruments.
·  Aid local CFOs in financial statements forecasting.

Others

·  Maintain understanding on all current and future capital regulations within the region.
·  Conduct other ad-hoc exercises and projects on capital management matters.
