Job description
MISSION
We are looking for an intern starting in March 2025 for a period of 6 months to support the control of jewelry gemstones, by means of chemometric measurements and data analyses, combined with the development of an algorithm focused on the identification and classification of their properties.
RESPONS I BILITIES
In close collaboration with the Materials, Chemistry and Surfaces team, under the supervision of your internship tutor, your main responsibilities will be the following:
· To review the state-of-the-art of chemometric analysis methods and corresponding data processing (especially spectral data);
· To ensure the acquisition and processing of measurements, in accordance with the existing protocols. To propose and implement upgrades;
· To conduct the chemometric analyses in accordance with the existing protocols, to assess results on different use cases. To propose and implement upgrades;
· Capitalize on your work in the form of technical notes and share your results within the project team with periodical presentations.
PROFILE
You are a Master-level engineering student with a strong experience in data science. You also have an interest in materials and gemology. Good knowledge in French is required.
You are familiar with spectral analysis methods, machine learning and their implementation with Python. Rigorous, methodical, with good critical thinking abilities, you are able to challenge status quo. Your sense of responsibility and your autonomy will be great assets to succeed in your mission.
Based mainly in Delémont at the Manufacture Varinor, you will also have the opportunity to collaborate with colleagues from other research sectors within our hub located in Microcity, Neuchâtel.
