Business Development Consultant
Job description
There is an exciting new role for a logistics focused candidate to take up a portfolio focused on the development of new business in Durban and surroundings focusing on integrated supply chain solutions for customers. The successful candidate will be responsible for the generation of new sales through prospecting, intra-company and overseas leads as well as the mining of market data. He/she will work with all business units to use all specialist knowledge in both warehousing and freight forwarding to provide sound supply chain solutions to customers.
Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
· Maintaining and expanding the contract logistics customer pipeline
· Generating new sales through all channels available for warehousing and distribution activities
· Performing continued marketing analysis to establish potential customers
· Organising prospective customers, classifying their potential and execution of a suitable sales plan
· Formulating appropriate tariffs for customers to suit customer requirements
· Preparation of proposals and quotations for internal approval before presentation to customers
· Attending to all administrative work on new accounts including forwarding and clearing instructions, credit applications, account numbers, working instructions and other special requirements.
· Managing all new customer accounts for a period of 12 months from go-live to ensure efficient customer service levels
· Establish and maintain relevant SOP's per customer
· Ensure profitability of all business sold
· Engage with customers on appropriate rate increases during the lifecycle of the customer account
· Ensure documentation and tariff classification is appropriate and complete
· Provide weekly sales activity reports
Your skills and experience
· 2-5 years working experience in a contract logistics and/or freight distribution environment
· At least 2 years' experience in a similar sales environment
· Experience in planning, implementation and follow-up.
· Experience in Bonded, free trade and common customs area experience.
· Proven cross docking sales experience.
· Experience in healthcare equipment devices.
· Excellent communication skills
· Advanced computer skills
· Attention to detail is a critical attribute
· Good presentation skills
· Sound communication skills, both written and verbal
· Ability to work under pressure
· Proven ability to adapt to change
· Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
· Good time-management skills and the ability to work independently
