Your tasks and responsibilities
The Assistant Trade Manager – Indian Sub-Continent (ISC) & Oceania will be part of the Kuehne + Nagel Trade Management Team, managing the ISC & Oceania to / from North America (NAM) Trade. He or she will be expected to perform the specific duties outlined below but to also be an active team member and participate in discussions and assessment of market conditions, carrier activities and potential KN actions. The main focus of the job entails managing “European & Asian” carrier relationships and commitments, as well as rate procurement for the above mentioned trade. The employee would be required to assist in developing the overall strategy for the company's growth in the respective Trades and to communicate with the ISC, Oceania and USA organizations so that the strategy is understood and executed by all involved in the trade.
This job requires both a broad knowledge of the respective Trades and in addition KN's services, tool and capabilities and the judgment to apply this knowledge to KN's RFQ responses.

The duties of the Assistant Trade Manager – Indian Sub-Continent & Oceania, can be broken down into five categories:
• Trade Management
• Rate procurement
• Carrier Relationships
• Business Development
• Trade Analytics
Specific Duties:
• Trade Management
- Understand the USA, ISC & Oceania Market – historic trends (market and rate), commodities, opportunities, customers, carrier and competition.
- Communicate and Implement the Growth Strategy
- Facilitate with Operational Issues in but not limited to the KN USA, KN ISC, KN AUS and KN NZ offices
- Respond to trade all related questions and inquiries in a prompt profession and timely manner.
- Travel throughout the US Areas and Countries working with seafreight, sales and product to support, promote, develop and close business.
- Work in close harmony with the other Trades and Trade Managers in NYC, SIN SCL and HAM to ensure the Global Growth and Carrier Strategy is being executed and achieved.
- Overall Responsibility to achieve Country TEU and GP growth targets. As outlined in HCMS.
• Rate Procurement
- Staying abreast of the market conditions with regards to Ocean Rates, Local Charges, Detention and Demurrage, etc.
- Negotiate market rate adjustment as per the market development
- Negotiate with Ocean Carriers for specific Named Accounts.
- Negotiate vessel space allocation and EQ with carriers to meet service and rate requirements.
- Discuss with Ocean Carriers about Implementation and execution of Surcharges
- Work closely with BMT, National and Area Pricing Groups.
• Ocean Carrier Relationships
- Manage “European” & “Asian” Carrier Contracts for the Trade in conjunction with the Global Carrier Stratgey.
- Escalate and Assist in Resolving Operational Issues
- Complying with Carrier Commitments, MQC's etc.
- Communicate and Meet the carriers on a regular basis, to discuss opportunities, the market, challenges and issues.
• Business Development
- Assist in Developing the KN Strategy for the development and Execution of the overall ISC and Oceania trade
- Analyze the Market and develop clear directives to achieve growth targets
- Collaborate with the respective ZS-TD's, Sales Organization and Products (drinks, forestry, refer etc) in the development of the ISC and Oceania Trades.
- Steer and foster the development of opportunities
- Cooperate with Sales in the Development of Customer Relationships
- Working closely with overseas development counterparts. (“ping pong” partners in growth)
- Regular National and twice annual Overseas CST's.
• Trade Analytics
- Prepare universal & harmonized Reports for all NAM Trades
- Create and manage MyKN Reports Closed Trade Group
- Tableau Training and facilitating
- Creating of carrier meeting “Preparation & Review” automated report templates
- Oversea Industry Data Sources (example Seabury, Datamyne and IHS)
• Team Member
- Numerous tasks in the NAM Trades (Import and Export) are done collaboratively and the Assistant Trade Manager is expected to be an integral art in these discussions and contribute.
- Topics covered will include carrier strategy, pricing policy, individual carrier and customer deals and general topics
Categories of Work Load Split:
- USA ~ Oceania – 30%
- USA ~ ISC – 15%
- ISC ~ USA – 30% (This will include the Oceania NB)
- Analytics – 25%
Your skills and experience
Skills and Experience:
- Bachelor degree in Business or equivalent experience
- Operational experience in Supply Chain / International Logistics (Ocean / Seafreight pricing preferred)
- Possess solid PC operational knowledge along with MS Office applications experience. Understand KN operating systems.
- Seasoned listening skills
- Extremely strong analytical skills
- Strong verbal and written communication and presentation skills
- Self-disciplined and self-motivated to produce aggressive results
- Strong telephone interaction, networking skills and personal drive
