Job description
The Principal Analyst role is based within The Analytics Centre of Excellence, RBWM UK. The team provides in depth analysis to various stakeholders typically within Customer Value Management covering Product, Customer, Channel and Regulatory Analytics. Our work covers all four UK brands (HSBC, first direct, M&S and John Lewis Partnership) and is used to give the business, and our regulators, a very detailed understanding of how products are performing, and how our customers use our products and interact with the Bank. Analytics plays a key role in the business in shaping strategies and driving actions, based on our understanding of the customer and analytical evidence. We are part of a large global analytics department and increasingly seen as important to driving competitive advantage for the Bank. The role involves both a technical element of statistics and data analysis, but equally the ability to identify commercial opportunities and be able to communicate to senior stakeholders, influence decision making and drive change.
The role of the Principal Analyst is to use specialist Analytics tools and techniques in drawing insights out of rich and complex data, and providing actionable recommendations and findings to the business. You will be responsible for developing and maintaining relationships with stakeholders across the business, both in the UK and globally. You will also be responsible for defining and prioritising analytics projects and requests to ensure effective use of analytics resource in line with business priorities.

Desired profile
The ideal candidate for this role will have:
Relevant product knowledge including knowledge of SAS
Experience working in relevant environment/s, i.e. Customer Analytics
Role relevant qualifications, i.e. Degree level education in a numerate discipline
Experience of using relevant software packages, i.e. large, complex databases, SAS/SQL queries
A desire to find ways to continually improve the service delivered to customers
A flexible and adaptable approach to change and will support others to respond in a similar way
Achieved targets and met expectations whilst supporting and encouraging others to do the same
Excellent written and spoken communication skills; an ability to communicate with impact, ensuring complex information is articulated in a meaningful way to wide and varied audiences
A track record of making complex business decisions with authority, even in times of ambiguity, considering the potential long term risks and implications
Experience of creating and deploying comprehensive business/operating plans which consistently deliver desired results
The base location for this role is 8 Canada Square, Sheffield, Leeds.
We are required by the Financial Services (Banking Reform) Act 2013 to create a ring-fenced bank in the UK by 1 January 2019. We will create the head office of our ring-fenced bank in Birmingham. This role may be relocated to Birmingham from 2017. Where the role holder is willing to move and it is practical to do so, the role may relocate before this time.
