The Head of Markets & Security Services (MSS) Operations for HBCE (HSBC Continental Europe) will provide oversight, leadership, direction, and implementation of the regional and Group Strategy, in line with local regulatory requirements. The role will have direct responsibility for the management of Operations activities supporting both the Markets and Securities Services (SSV) businesses for Continental Europe across Paris, Germany, Luxemburg, Ireland and smaller European sites within HBCE (HSBC Continental Europe), in addition to Global Services Center (GSC) in Poland.  This will include supporting business growth and an ambitious transformation agenda across the Region.

The HBCE Head will be the primary MSS Ops contact point for the HBCE MSS business stakeholders and will interface with all businesses. They will partner with Risk and Finance and will need to build robust, workable relationships with each stakeholder. In addition, they will work very closely with the MSS Operations Regional Head, functional product teams and MSS COO office to ensure consistency of approach in planning and execution, ensuring alignment to MSS businesses.

What you will do:

The role primary focus is to ensure our MSS teams’ organizations are optimized to reach our strategic goals and match our values. To be successful, our new HBCE Head of MSS Ops will:

·  Support the development and communication of a powerful and compelling vision that inspires and engages people with the HSBC Values and goals as the basis of an inclusive, high performance, customer-centred culture.
·  Motivate your leadership team to attract, retain and develop the capability and talent to provide for succession and ensure delivery of business objectives.
·  Set expectations, share best practice and manage, monitor, coach and develop leaders to ensure that they maximise their performance, meet the required standards, and continuously develop their capabilities and experience.

In this role you will:

·  Work seamlessly and collaboratively representing Operations interests in each site with senior members from businesses, functions and local country management.
·  Ensure that the Operations teams in countries adhere, conform and deliver in meeting Group's strategic focus, implementing new initiatives and streamlining opportunities.
·  Encourage and champion the importance of a positive HSBC customer experience, recognising the importance of MSS Operations' contributing to commercial and franchise opportunities.
·   Actively leverage and challenge metrics available to ensure Operations challenges are understood, measured and tracked.
·  Work front to back with the MSS business to focus on commercial viability of new business as well as the associated cost of new client and products.
·  Manage the HBCE MSS Operations cost base (including hiring approvals’ review) to meet or exceed financial targets whilst protecting franchise and enabling growth.
·  Establish and maintain a robust and efficient control environment across HBCE MSS Operations to ensure compliance with HSBC policy and procedures.
·  Oversee the implementation of the desired operating models and act as a champion of continuous improvement, aiming to improve the client experience and building scale.
·  Establish a cadence and culture to manage all concerned stakeholders [internal and external] to maximize relationships and achieve mutually beneficial, collaborative outcomes for all. 
·  Support the execution of the MSS Ops People agenda within the HBCE region, creating innovative ways to inspire our people regardless of location or culture, and help identify and promote the very best talent that we have.

Conditions

You should apply if you have:

·  Master’s degree within Finance, Business, Financial Engineering, Banking, or equivalent
·  Significant experience leading operations functions that require a mix of financial acumen, of banking external environment knowledge (regulatory, political, competitors, etc.), and of Markets businesses key disciplines knowledge (FX, Equities, Fixed-Income, Collateral for both cash and derivatives)
·  Ability to take decisions and to make judgements quickly and consistently.
·  Proven track record of delivering and reviewing complex, cross-organisational and multinational business or technology change within Operations.
·  Ability to build relationships with other functions, to interface with and influence senior leaders, and to communicate effectively and confidently at all levels across a large organization
·  Ability to identify development needs, to coach and develop team members
·  Excellent presentation, communication and interpersonal skills (fluency in English is mandatory)
·  Positive ‘can do’ attitude and high level of motivation to meet deadlines and targets, to ensure delivery of a broad range of outputs simultaneously, and to challenge the norm with tenacity
·  Well-developed planning, time and resource management skills
